The "Buy a Case* thing reminds me of when I brought in my scratched to hell Iphone 3G for warranty. They told me they wouldn't warranty it because it was scratch so badly. I told them that was unacceptable and proceeded to get a little loud in the store. They finally replaced it and told me "Just buy a case this time." I told em it has a case on it already. ;) FWIW, I had a screen protector on it so the (only part of the phone that's important) was just fine and had no scratches on it.
I sold it on Ebay and put in the auction "Just put a case on it like everyone else." $325 shipped to FL more than paid for my Droid on a 1 year contract. ;) I can't believe that they find "buy a case" an acceptable answer. Having heard it then and again now straight from the horse's mouth... I'm glad I got away from giving them any more money. They had a similar issue with the Nexus One too (three four?). I'm not sure how that ended up being resolved but how these companies don't figure it out ahead of time is ridiculous. |

But since this is apparently a hardware design "feature", it's not like they can pushy a software update to resolve it. If this proves to be valid, this might cost them some $$ to fix.

I also think the the "Buy a case" argument is a bit patronizing, the strip around the phone and the uncluttered looks is one of the selling points of the phone, I have one that luckily (and from what I have read am lucky) doesn't suffer from the reception problems, but I would be pretty p##### of, if, after standing in line for over four hours, receive my purchase, get home to be told "To make your phone work properly, you will have to pay out more money and radically change it's appearance"
As I have said, I have one and am delighted, I would tell if I had a problem, but for once I seem to have fallen lucky. I originally thought that the different coloured bumpers were a clever marketing ploy, hell, 25 quid for a rubber strip is pushing it somewhat, I'm left a little suspicious of Apple, did they know about the problem and is this their work around? The Dude in another thread suggested putting a clear strip on the offending part, that would be my solution (not my idea though) if my phone had the problem.

One would think that the aftermarket case makers will be working overtime to produce that "extra bit o leather" that will be the given solution.
Wonder what killer slogans they can come up with, so many permutations with "core, bite, skin" etc' Appleaid (as in lemonade) springs to mind.
