I ask the question because i don't know the answer.

Having served a long time in the military i do know that scottish soldiers are fiercely proud of being called jocks, i am fiercely proud of knowing some and calling them my friends.
try a term like scots or scottish.

The question was a fair one, but left unanswered.

We like our vintage cars and bikes there I have a friend that still has a Bonneville with side car ! I went a couple of times to Glasgow and also close to you ..Motherwell . As in the early '80 we had a football player in our local team AA GENT that came from Scotland ( James gillespie ) He was originally from Glasgow and played 2 years at Gent and then went back to play for Motherwell . We visited him a couple of time . He came back to live in Gent and married a local beauty . He is still there , at least he was a couple of years ago when I last met him he owned a snooker club .

Fair enough Dave ! As I said I know quite a few Scotsman . They may be rough but are very hospitable . I never understood where the stigmatic image of being tight with money came from . ( I felt the tight with money much more when I spend 2 years of my life just around the corner from you ,) Very generous people . They are also very proud of their heritage .

Well , you must be used to the climate , but don't you find there is too much traffic there . There are no open spaces left , especially in the Flandres . Belgium is so small but with about 11 million living in it .

My question was not meant out of any hostility, hence the words "I ask the question because I don't know the answer" I was just curious, I still maintain that the question was fair and put in a respectful manner.

I know you Dave , and I therefor also know you did not intend to offend at all . Maybe Johny just feels different and strongly about how to associate his nationality . I have Catalan friends that do not want to be considered Spanish and nothing else either .

I have tried some of that bootleg "jenever" not far from my home village ( St.Martens -Latem ) just up the road they have the Filliers distilery , but there used to be some "watering holes " around there that severed the "uncontrolled " real McCoy .

Well in San Diego, California we have no accent at all, it seems other countries and other parts of the United States have some wicked accents.
