My wife's datejust gains 4-5 sec a day. I know that you can adjust or compensate for this by laying the watch in different positions at night. Do you have to try each position (crown down, face down, etc) and see if it helps or hurts, or do certain positions generally make the watch gain/loose time? It seems like I've read that somewhere, but I can't find it.

I read it somewhere too, can't remember.

I think it was watch on back = gains
watch on side, crown down = to lose
watch on side, crown up = to lose more.

experts correct me if I'm wrong.

crown down i heard loses more. crown up loses, but less. back gains.

Please don't get to annal about timekeeping COSC spec is a AVERAGE -4 to + 6 seconds over any 24 hour period.Below tend to work better on the older type calibres like the 15 series but its the same for 31 and 30 series.

hairsprings, but I do know that the 3130-series and 4130 movements, (with overcoil hairsprings), show negligible variation with position. I would expect your wife's watch to show very little as well. If the 4-5 sec/day gain bothers her, RSC will regulate it at N/C to within a second or two.

The ladies cal 2235 has a Breguet type hairspring.

Thanks for the help. It really doesn't bother her much at all, but she has to set it down in some position when she takes it off at night, so she might as well choose a position that helps regulate it, right?

Makes sense to me, saves adjusting the watch more often.

Doesn't do any harm to try but I've not noticed any difference with a 14060M.
