Interesting experience at my local AD (in UK)
Popped in today to do a bit of trying on and have a chat. Had a look at the TT IIc (lovely watch, but TT isn't really for me, especially with a black/gold bezel). I also popped a DJ II (white dial and baton markers) on my wrist and I have to say the watch is breathtaking. It has real presence (and weight!) in the 41mm and that extra 1mm seems quite noticeable - more so than I was expecting, anyway. It was in the window for £4750 but after much discussion he said I could have it for £4500 (on 0% over 2 years if that was what I wanted). Decent deal, do you think?
We were also talking about the new Explorer II, and he confirmed that the only reason it wasn't launched this year was that Rolex didn't want to impact the sales of the new Explorer 39mm. It'll definitely be out next year, though, as they're completely ready for production now. Oh, and the new Sub is expected late September/early October (this was a dealer at Brent Cross - i.e. London suburbs - if that makes any difference). End of report

Thanks for the "Report" Tony
It's always interesting to hear the latest word on the street. I'll certainly be trying to secure the new Exp II next year if it is indeed released |

I heard that the DJ II is not selling as expected .... Think Rolex may have over-blinged the DJ with the bigger DJ II
That may explain the 'unusual' discount on the watch. Maybe ask if they would discount a SS Submariner |

Oh, and there was no question of a discount on any of the sports models unfortunately. Not too sure how many of the new Sub they'll get but not going down the waiting list route either. Any of you guys heard anything to the contrary?

It was FH, Eric - nice bunch in there, actually, and the guy I was speaking to was hinting that we could develop a mutually beneficial relationship

that's right Tony. FH is my north London AD and they have been more than helpful and I have referred a few members over - they are my fave UK AD.
Have you made the purchase yet? |

I do think that, with the Sub and Exp II, the DJ II would be a lovely variation though, so it could well be my next indiscretion. Errr, I mean acquisition

gotta love the accountants hey....
As for the DJII - they are nice. FH managed to get me a TT DJII with the green outlined roman dial in Sept last year... when no one in london was able to.... and I have called and personally visied pretty much every ADs in central London for an early delivery. Now we have a pretty good relationship. I'm also hoping my SS Daytona would arrive on time from them ;-) |
