PAM owner buys a U-BOAT

(Disclaimer - not a Panerai watch but I think it appeals to Pam enthusiasts so I posted it in the PAM DIscussion section)

I have a 312 PAM and a GMTIIC Two Tone. Have had many Omegas and Tags... Have to say that the styling on the U-BOATs have always appealed to me so I broke down and bought one. Few pics below:

OVERALL COMMENTS on U-BOAT Carbonio AB4 45mm:
+1 Excellent craftsmanship and detail
+1 Raised Crystal
+1 See through back (eventhough all you are seeing is a std ETA 2824)
+1 Destro for lefties (me!). Destro is watchspeak for Lefthook
+1 PVD black w Carbon face has me staring at this thing for hours.
+1 More compliments daily than my Panerai which is nuts since I could buy 3 U-BOATS for my PAM
+1 Box and Presentation is First Class and includes slots for 2 extra straps
+1 Silicone strap is very comfortable and bulletproof
+1 The 45mm size is chunky but still fits under my cuff. 53mm was just too big for daily wear
+1 Don't see too many of these yet around Toronto
+1 Styling rocks with Carbon Fiber

-1 45mm watch w 20mm band...eh hem?? Took me a while to get used to versus the PAM and I am OK now. Having a custom thick leather strap made for this one
-1 Clasp is OK but does not compare to Omega, Rolex, PAM, Oris etc.
-1 The ETA 2824 movement is found in watches ranging from $200 to $5000. No exclusivity, not a certified chronometer.. but a workhorse
-1 From the factory, the buckle is on the bottom side of the watch strap. I switched my strap around (top to bottom) to resolve

Nice looking 'boat mate - I like the 'canteen' crown protector.

Like you though, I would be looking to get a nice thick replacement strap - perhaps from the nice Mr Beard at Toshi

Cheers

Very nice. I love the carbon fiber face and the lume. You could read a book with that lume.

that watch looks siiick!!

how does it wear compared to your 312? does it feel bigger, smaller, better fit, etc?

definitely a good watch to add to your rotation, i may need to look into getting one too!

Watch feels bigger and chunkier compared to my 312. Strap is extremely comfortable but feels noticably narrower. I am having a 22mm beveled strap made to fix then and will post more pics.
