Titanium vs SS
I slightly prefer titanium for its weight and matte look. however, i hear that Ti is more prone to scratches and is harder to polish. is that true? Is SS much better for maintaining the "brand new" look longer term?

Stainless steel - there's nothing about Ti in watches that appeals to me.
Cheers

Ti can be polished with an ink eraser in a pen-like form. But to what degree I do not know. I reckon deep scratches on Ti needs an expert's job. As for SS, there are parts with polished and also brushed finished. If you are to do a DIY polished on the brushed finished parts, it can be done, but on those mirrored/polished surfaces, most of us need a pro job unless you have done it many times before.
In any case, don't bother with Ti or SS. As long as you like it, even RESIN or RUBBER is good! |

Scratches on brushed Ti can be easily removed using a brush pen and I did it on my Pam 305 to a degree where I myself can't believe the results. I am a sucker for Ti whether on car parts, motorcycle parts, bicycle parts or on any of my toys, not just watches.

i've had a PAM25A, and the combi Titanium
with the Patina is stunning. scratches can removed with the pen, no problem :-) |

I'm a minority person here, but a scratched up Luminor just looks cooler to me for some reason. I'm not talking beat to hell or anything, but a few marks don't bother me at all. Now, my GMT IIc, they stand out more.
Ti will show scratches easier.

I like BOTH!!!! Another point to keep in mind is that ti is more stealthy. It looks dark grey next to its ss counterpart. That is either a good or bad thing depending on your tastes.

Depends on the look you like if you ask me. The Ti gives it the PVD type look if thats what you like.

Depends...
I was wondering the same thing before I bought my 177...
It's true that scratches are easily removed with an ink eraser. I tried many times (found procedure on Paneristi) and it works great. Even under a 5x loup I cant see it. I like the look of both SS & Ti but having never owned Ti and already having a Stainless Sub I figured it would be a welcome change... Besides.. I LOVE the look. More subtle (less bling) and looks more like the "tool" watch that Panerai was originally meant to be imho. It all about personal tastes and desires... One isn't "better" than the other. |

In my experience:
- Panerai Ti looks great and with a full bracelet is amazing!! It does, however, easily have the finished knocked off. For some strange reason, I have hit the bezel twice while washing my hands, and needed to break out the glass eraser to blend the finish back in. - Worse than above, I have picked up some dings in the underside edge of the case, no idea how, but they are keepers. - Having said this, I don't find Panerai SS that much tougher. My bro's SS Marina looks like its had 8-shades of cr@p kicked out of it, and I've seen some SS 1950 cases pretty tatty looking down the edges!! I say, pay your money, take your choice .... or go ceramic |
