arca- its a french desk clock, not expensive, but it was my mothers gift to my dad on their honeymoon in paris, i paid to have it restored and 'liberated' it from my dad's desk!

Nothing wrong with your camera, Sam. Don't use the flash and try switching to "MACRO" mode. Use a very steady hand and preferably natural light. You should get much better results.
