Air-King Question

When was the last time Rolex made a change to the Air-King? ie bracelet, movement etc..... what year was the last update to the AK.

Where do I find out what one actually weighs???

Oooohhh "Air King" mmmmm nice. sorry
I recall the latest movement change being around 2001 with the "M" placed on the end of the serial number. This is the one to get with the latest movement i.e. Calibre 3130. The model is 14000M.
As to the weight, sorry don't know that one, but it is pretty light weight.

Steve is correct Amanda basically most Rolex watches have changed very little over the last 30 years.Sure there have been cosmetic and very minor movement changes.Suppose the biggest was the Calibre 3130 basically now the same as the Cal 3135 but without the date complication. Now the Cal 3130 is now used in the Airking Sub non-date both not COSC tested. But in the Explorer exactly the same Cal 3130 is used, but COSC tested. The COSC test today is a big marketing ploy, and if you think of how many movements.Yes its only the bare movement thats tested, not a completed watch. Now each movement costs around £140 to be tested. And when you think of the many millions of movements tested yearly. And the test is supposed to take 15 days per movement,I sometimes wonder how they possibly find the time to test every single one.And the test is fully automated with computers and time lapse photography and must test several 100s at a time.

Would agree and this is a direct quote from Watchbore estimate that at least 15,000 Rolex movements failed in 2001-2. According to Rolex, the rejects are re-regulated or fixed, and sent back to COSC until they pass.Rolex Quote. "We don’t use COSC to tell us how good our movements are," said a source deep inside the Wilsdorf Rolex foundation. "We test them ourselves. All we want is the chronometer certification, it’s only for marketing."... I rest my case the COSC test now just a pure marketing ploy.

I love the Air KIng. The blue dial (different blue than the Sub) is just gorgeous. Great humble Rolex. Classy.

I am not sure what the older one's looked like! But the new models appear to be a little beefier!

that fact that some movements fail shows that the test is not that "EASY" to pass....it's definitely not a walk in the park....

if u could just name the source.......that would add more credibility not just quoting from somewhere supposedly to be deemed as the truth........

The source is from timezone for one, and several other articles on the net.And with a bit of patience and regulation most modern day movements will achieve the COSC swiss standard.I have a $80 dollar Alpha that after a tiny bit of regulation, has been running for over 6 months well inside the COSC spec.

Probably a good question, but I guess it would really depend on who's wearing it!!

I tried one on once and it looked horribly tiny on my wrist. By the same token, I saw it on the wrist of a very slightly built salesman with small wrists and it actually looked very nice.

The Air-King would look superb on most wrists if it were at least 38 mm - but NOT at just 34 mm.

IMHO - JJ

I believe most of the Airking date were made mainly for the Canadian and English markets and now quite collectable especially the red date wheel ones.

I would like one of those Air-King Dates!

Here's a K series (2001) 14000M Air-King, with 3130 movement. Plain and simple.

I like the Air King, but would go with Explorer 1 as it is slightly larger and has an overall similar appearance. The only downside is that you can only get the explorer with black face. A nice blue would be cool.
