I would have left the crown guards but I think it looks amazing!
Two questions if you don't mind sharing: 1. How much did it cost? 2. How prone is it to scratches? Thanks, Eric

Now let me get this straight, you took a perfectly good Sub LV, dismantled it, grind off the crown gaurds, removed the cyclops, coated the case and bracelet in a super hard black PVD coating and it comes out looking

I gotta say I am kinda speechless...I don't think I would consider doing that in a million years but people modify their Ferrari's and Lambo's also and I would not...I guess to each his own

That watch looks fantastic!...if it were mine I would be tempted to do some
extra criminalization in the form of some after market sword hands and a military bezel insert....nice job though makes me wonder why Rolex dont do things like this themselves.

I really like it, very unique and striking.
While I prefer the original Submariner, I believe once you buy something you have the right to modify it any way you want (warranty exceptions accepted). No different to cars, guitars, houses, etc. If you like it, and want it, then go for it. |

Between the crowngaurd an cyclops an insert and pvd mod, I have a few grand in it.
It's coated the same as a glock pistol.. It doesn't scratch It won't chip or wear, but if you hit it hard enough And get a nice deep scratch then you will see steel. It is not like powder coating. If you look on eBay at the pvd panerais that are 20 year old collectables, they still have the coating intact, there are some deep scratches here and there but pvd is on there for good once done. |

Subking,
That sub is the shizzzznet!! Seriously, glad to see someone with the cajones to customize their watch to this level. Life is too damn short not to enjoy what you paid for. It's your watch and your money. I would love to do that to a sub with the following additions: Anti-glare coat the inside of crystal Matte finish the hands and hour markers Matte dial |

Looks a real tool watch now!
I would love to see some work in progress pics of the process, for instance removing the crown guard. Does look very military on the Nato, but personally I would have to try it on some Breitling Diver ProII rubber |

I fall on the "digging it" side of the fence - good work!
Only question, why scrub the crown guard? |

the vintage 6538 or 5508 and 6536 had no crown gaurds on those sub models. those are the models i love the most that rolex ever made in this submariner line up. im a big fan of vintage. |
