GMT "Coke"

A small jewler near my office (not an AD) has a rather nice looking GMT "Coke" sitting in the window. I walk past it every day on the way to work and it's keeps calling out to me

Having only recently bought my GMT II c I really don't need another one but I do love the look of the watch especially the red/black bezel.

I'm told that the date on the papers is 2000 and has box, original papers etc, but no info on whether it's been serviced so might have to factor that into the cost. Asking price is £2,900.00, does this seem reasonable?

Can't help with the value but can tell you the 16710 is a real classic. I'd hate to realise the virtues of the 16710 after buying a GMT IIc. Unfortunately there's room for both.

Its a fairly typical price from a dealer with a shop. About £400-500 more than a you would expect in a private sale.
For £2900 you would be able to get a much newer 16710 in a private sale, probably even a safe queen.
The last retail price of the Z/M serial GMT's was £2790.
No reason not to barter with them though, if everything is in order.

This link may help. It's to another forums grading scale for used watches based upon their condition, whether they have all original and service papers, etc...:

http://www.timezone.com/library/tzgu...343750#GRADING

Hop on over to Ebay..there are many for sale...but you can start to get an idea of what other reputable dealers are asking for theirs.

As I've often heard said about transactions: "You buy the dealer, not the watch." What is the dealer's reputation in your area? Amongst other dealers? What is your experience like when you deal with them? What do they tell you about this watch?

At the current exchange rate of approx. 1.48 USD to 1 GBP, 2900 gbp would be about $4200 bucks....seems there should be room for negotiation. Good luck and let us know what you decide!
