Buying Rolex from Hong Kong

The current list price for 116610 in US is $7250. Can someone get a better price if buying from an AD in Hong Kong?

if I know any better all luxury items are more expensive in china than in the us especially now that rmb climbed in the last few months

You'd be lucky to find one here unless you are on the AD VIP list. Otherwise, they are selling at a premium.

MSRP is $53,600 HKD which is the equivalent of $6900 USD

And in canada the msrp on the 116610 is 8410cad which is aprox 80736usd and there's no avoiding tax here unless you live on a reserve and find an ad that will ship there most will not.

I used to live in Vancouver and I must say the MSRP of Rolex is one of the highest, not to mention the taxes!

Prices I would imagine would be slightly lower on average. HK's currency, the Hong Kong Dollar is notoriously "pegged" to the USD meaning the currencies mirror each other intentionally. This means that Yuan or RMB, China's currency is less a factor but nonetheless plays an important role on the demand side as mainland Chinese, often new wealth make the short trip to HK to avoid the brutal Chinese luxury tax. I've lived in HK and spent considerable amount of time in China and HK is by far the better place for shopping for authentic items. I suspect that one could be had in HK for under MSRP, bargaining and cash not credit will make the difference.

i believe GV's have a sticker price HKD48,600 (a shade under AUD 7k) you may be in luck and AD here may give the industry standard 8% off since its not as scarce these days

Being a frequent visitor to HK, I have noticed that the watches that are "hot", fetch MSRP or over (in the past - the LV, Explorer 1, the Milgauss, etc). Once the AD's sense that the market has changed, they relax the prices a bit and discounts are possible. For new models or "hot", in demand models, forget about the discount and be prepared to pay sometimes overinflated prices.

HK is one of the centers of capitalism and these folks know how to take full advantage of it !

I'll be in Hong Kong (west central waterfront area) next month looking for a GMT IIc or a DSSD, or a ceramic sub if I can find one. Any specific AD or shop that someone can recommend with a good selection and good prices??

I lived in Hong Kong in the '60's & '70's.......when it was the cheapest place on the face of the earth to buy watches.....those of you that were around there then know what I'm talking about.
Today the Republic of TRF is the place to shop for Rolex!

The GMTIIc was 6000usd at an AD on the Nathan road..so sub-c must be aroun 6500usd..

Of course I buy from the forum sellers, but it would also be nice to bring back a Rolex momentum from the trip... thus asking for some friendly guidance

Right, except Hong Kong is a special adminiatrative region and the currency is the Hong Kong dollar.

Lots of AD's all over HK. Central and the area around Central (especially Causeway Bay) will have AD's all over.

Shop around and have fun !

Don't be afraid to ask for a discount, it is the culture in Asia !

Someone from HK should chime in, but I imagine that for the models which are not "hot", 8% discount (no sales tax, either) is easily possible.

Was wandering around MK earlier; Sea Dweller was in a couple of shop windows for HK$68500; Submariner was HK$53600; didn't see the GMTIIc but I got one for HK$49k a couple of yrs ago, so probably just a bit more than that now. Lots of ADs in Central; whenever I've asked in the past, none would offer more than an 8% discount. Hope this helps.

I've helped out a few TRF members passing through Hong Kong attain a better discount than 8% at my AD.

I usually ask them to PM me when they arrive, as asking me a few weeks or months ahead of time doesn't exactly help. It depends on what my AD(s) have in stock at the time you are there, and at that time they can assess what discount they can give, but it is almost always better than 8% on most models.

While this thread started with the OP enquiring about the new Sub-C, there are no AD's that I know of that will sell them discounted. As mentioned in my response above, you are lucky to find one sitting in an AD window for longer than 24 hours before it's moved.

Grey Dealers in Hong Kong currently have the Sub-C listed at 58-59K HKD, where the MSRP is 53.6K HKD.
