Ceramic sub date on a m series
Hi collected my ceramic sub yesterday and was suprised by the serial number.
Its a M and its not random, its one of the old serial numbers M9856-- SO why is it such a old case number ,could it be as suggested possibly a prototype or very early production watch in storage. I have had 3 V series in the last 18 months .last time i bought a Mserial number was Nov 2008. any one have any thoughts TIA |

looks like there are M, V, G and then the randon serials for the new Sub-C.
maybe the M serial is the early, early production case. look forward to seeing similar issue with the LV-C too! |

I think it is a random number.
M was about 2007 even if you like to speculate on dates of production.

It is not an "old" serial number..
.... It's like I've been saying for years.. Rolex almost always has two or three serial prefixes being produced at a time.. M's were first seen around here in early 2008, and so were V's (late '08), and so it stands to reason that they are still producing those serials only a couple of years later. The latest, of course, being random.. People who think that a serial prefix was only produced on a certain day, or that all watches produced with that letter were all done in a single year are simply wrong........

Have to agree Larry, this silly approximation year when a case, may or not have been stamped hysteria will never end.

Just remember that Rolex brought out the two-tone ceramic sub in 2008. They have SS cases and those probably had an M serial number at first, then a V serial number later on. Therefore, since Rolex was producing SS sub cases with M numbers, a few cases may have been sitting around and they used one of them on your SS Ceramic sub.
