Mens or ladies

I'm looking at buying my first Rolex. I want oyster perpetual date with a blue face, as this has a 34mm case is it a mens or ladies watch.

As i'm a man I don't want to be told I've got a ladies watch

Welcome to TRF!

I think 34 mm is smallish by today's trends. I have a 34mm 1955-ish Oyster Perpetual. I don't wear it much.

If you like it / it looks nice on you, get it. I like my 36mm Datejust and 40mm sport watches. I also have a Pam at 44mm.

It all depends on your tastes.

34mm is fine and yes, is a man's watch.

If you have enormous wrists, it may look a bit small but otherwise is fine.

That said, watch sizes have been trending upwards along with waistlines (unlike airplane seats), so if you want to follow trends you may want to consider a larger size.

I believe the 34mm is what Rolex considers the mid size. I may be wrong, however.

can i ask how big is your wrist - this may determine if you are wearing a ladies watch or not... sometimes.

welcome btw!

Man, I think that is 100% ladies size these days. If you wear a 34mm watch, go out in public and you will be wearing a smaller watch than all the ladies these days. My local AD says they can't give away watches that size, even to ladies. Women these days are wearing 40mm watches, which I think looks perfect on most women.

34mm is definitely not a lady's watch. I suggest you go for a larger size (36mm or bigger) if you're concern about it.

As I thought a mixed responce. I have thin wrists so I think it would look OK. Perhaps I should get 36mm Datejust.

There's not a huge difference between the size of the Date and Datejust, the only real difference is the options that you can have on each model. With Rolex, the only watches they classify as ladies' watches are the 26mm models, smallest Yacht-Master and 29mm Pearlmaster. 31mm is classed as a mid-size, and 34mm up tend to be classed as gents models.

You may be unhappy with that size after some time.

It all depends on your wrist size and your expectations.

I used to wear a 34mm Swiss Military and didn't think a thing about it. When I went to buy an Air-King, I thought it was too small.

On some wrist, 34mm looks huge and on some it looks minuscule.

And just because everyone is on the big watch bandwagon, including women, doesn't make a watch feminine or masculine.

This picture is from the Fifties. Look at the watch on the Marine Marksmanship Instructor. Is that feminine?

I really don't get this whole size trend thing, just wear what you like! Yesterday I saw about 3 women wearing Panerais...which would make most watches from Rolex look like ladies watches.

Mid-size watches are 31mm..

34mm is the same size as the Air King, and along with the like-size Yachtmaster 35mm, are very popular men's watches........

Depends on the model...I believe the mid-size Yachtmaster is 35 mm. Ladies' is 29, and men's is 40 (same as Sub).

It depends on what looks good on you, with the proportions on your wrist. I am perfectly happy with my ladies' size Yachtmaster, and think a mid-size is too large for me. Other women are perfectly happy wearing 40mm men's model watches.

If you are still unsure you may want to try on 34, 35, 36, and 40 mm Rolex models.
