What inspired you to become a watch collector.

I dove into this wonderful life of collecting after a very poor childhood when all I wanted was a L.E.D. watch but could not afford it. From that point on I made it my mission to learn everything about watches that I could, because one day I knew that through education and business ownership I would eventually be able to own some very nice watches 15 total of different brands. The only problem is, I didn't know that it would be this hard to stop buying.

Well, I don't really consider myself a collector, but this watch got me to buy the other four.

And those led to these:

This was actually a gift.

Which led to these:

I already had this one:

Here's an old group shot that has some watches that I don't still have and omits the new DJ.

My Grandfather

My grandfather was a watchmaker and owned a jewelry store in Charlottesville, VA. I used to play around with pocket watches and Tiffany clocks in his shop. He always wore a Bulova Accutron Spaceview.

When I was around eight years old, my favorite uncle bought he and his wife matching TT Datejusts with the gold tapestry dial and I was absolutely mesmerized. I set out to learn everything I could about Rolex watches set about the business of saving for my own.

I then received a 16613 Blue Submariner for my college graduation and never looked back. I have owned eight Rolex watches since and continue to be amazed by the quality, precision and attention to fine detail that oftentimes seems absent in the modern world.

Seriously though to the OP.

I bought my first fine watch (a breitling) many years ago. I've always loved mechanical watches ever since I was a kid. I guess I was just destined for it....

It's true. NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again.

I was always fascinated with watches....it all started with an Armitron that I found in the snow on the way home from school that played a really cool Mozart song! Then came the swatches, where you could interchange the straps and kind of get crazy! Then, I got into dive watches, I went through my fair share of Casio's & Freestyles. In the mid 90's my wife bought me a Tag 300 Meter Pro, which I still have.....but I had always wanted a Rolex Sub. Flash forward a bit, after having to kids and starting my own business, I bought my wife a TT DJ in 2002 with money that I had secretly been putting aside. 3 years later I was finally able to afford one for myself and purchased a SD. While wearing my SD out one night, a friend of mine who was, and still is, a huge collector of Omega, told me about timezone. I signed up and started absorbing as much info as I could, then the real madness set in!

I can't say it was any one thing. I suppose it started as I became as interested in the history of certain pieces as the watches themselves.

I have admired Rolex for along time, and this year I just decided it was time to act on the impulse. Then that impulse just started getting out of control.

Its the enablers that exist here and all the fine examples you guys have shown me. The bug has landed and it BIT ME HARD!!!!!!

I used to have these friends with really cool watches when i was a kid but i couldn't afford one at the time. My mom even bought me a Datejust like TT watch with jubille bracelet, she's so kind.

15 years later i became a successful business owner and started to reward myself with watches and suddenly i was addicted.

It's funny to remember the past...
