Welcome to the club. The case is larger, and so is the price!

Just to clarify, the Day-Date II is not a replacement for the 36mm DD, it is a separate model being produced concurrently for people that want a larger wrist presence. I personally prefer the 36mm, as it is a true classic.

The best way to answer your questions is to go to an AD and compare the two.

I also prefer the 36mm size myself.

The Day-Date II is only available in the President bracelet, the 36mm Day-Date is available with a President or Oyster bracelet.

There are significantly more dials available for the 36mm.

well that makes me feel better that it is not a direct replacement but a additional model. i cant complain on the watch itself its a remarkable timepiece, i also have a steel & gold submariner for a more day to day sporty look. i have had that for 10 years and i love it

I think the 36mm Day-Date will always be THE Rolex watch.

Agree with wuzzer. I've tried the ddii and they wear a lot differently than the 36mm.

They did the same thing with the DJ, and now there is a DJII. When I tried on a DJ it just seemed to small, so I choose to get a DJII.

The DJ and DD are classics because they have been around for a long time.

If I were to get a DD I would revisit this issue and reconsider whether the 36mm version would work for me.

The DD2 is for people who wants a larger watch.

I personally like the 36mm DD1, and leave large watches to Panerai.

I read on the rolex website that the new Day-Date II has something called paraflex absorber which is designed to absorb impacts a lot better also making that particular watch more 'shock resistant' than the standard rolex line. Anyone confirm this?? Any further info?
