I would have thought that going into the water without first checking that the crown is screwed down is wilfully negligent, rather like driving off in the car with the drivers's door open. Or something like that. |

Such a mishap has occurred to an elderly relative of mine. She is approx. 75 years old and has a golden Rolex Lady Datejust, with President bracelet.
During her holiday at a touristic spot, she forgot to screw down the crown of her Rolex after adjusting the time and went to the sea. Sea water immediately penetrated her watch. She has sent the watch immediately to a service center in the big city. In my opinion only two days might have passed for the watch to reach the center. It turned out that there was severe corrosion damage to the watch, many parts needed to be replaced and the invoice was about 2,000 USD. Such an incident can happen to everyone, even if it can be described as gros negligence. MG |

Get a pint glass, fill it with vodka, drop watch in there with crown unscrewed. Drink it all to drown out your stupidity. Watch the little bubbles come out of the crown tube as you swig. Repeat till you find watchmaker or do not care anymore. Hypothetically of course.
