My GMT-Master II 16710 seems to have considerably more "Play" in the crown/hands when setting the time than my Sub 14060.

Is this typical? This may be difficult to quantify, but what is considered "Normal" or typical?

A certain amount of movement seems to be inherent in the movement (both use the same base).

In my own experience some seem to have more than others. Interestingly I notice much less in the old 15xx slowbeats.

I noticed the "excessive play" with my GMT IIc and sent it to RSC-Dallas for a "look-see".

After almost two months, the watch returned with the same issue. When I called about it, I was told that this was normal with the movement. I explained that I had the same movement (3186) in my Explorer II and it was rock-solid with no play.

Their only response was that the sloppiness was normal and I would have to live with it. A sad comment for a $10K+ watch.

I had flipped my EXPII for the GMT and fortunately I was able to repurchase the EXPII and sell the GMT IIc. I will not have to live with it.

I have also noticed differences in different watches...some even with the same movement. It does not seem to effect the watch so I never gave it a second thought

I have had 6 rolexes in my time collecting and they all have had slightly different amounts of "play". I dont think this is an issue to worry about.

Only if it effects fuctionality.

Rolexes are made with precision where it matters.
