Powers To Be:
As weird as it seems, I cannot decide between a black Submariner or a SS TOG with a blue dial. I am not a diver or water loving person. The watch just looks cool, and there's no doubt from a glance what kind of watch it is. On the other hand the TOG looks neat and classical. It seems I am deciding on the watch from its looks and not functionality.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TRF.

Both excellent watches, but the Sub will always hold its resale value much better in case you decide to flip in the future.

Other than that, you would need to try on both watches and see which one really smiles back at you.

On this forum you will get more Sub lovers as collectors and WIS favor sports models over non-sport models.

With that being said I would get the TOG and it will hold the same value as a Sub if you buy it right(secondary market).

Since functionality isn't important to you, then decide based on looks alone. Which one catches your eye more and feels better on your wrist? You'd have to try both on for as long as possible to decide. If you can't decide, I'd sleep on it for a few days then go back and try them on again.

Try the Sub first; if you don't like it after wearing it for a while, you can flip it and purchase the TOG.

Other way around, and you will definitely lose more money in the swap.

The Tog as I understand would be harder to sell if you choose to later on. Besides between the 2 I would choose the Sub.

I would recommend trying them both on, sleeping on it, and going back and trying both on again the next day. Maybe also try them on with both your casual and work clothing.

Both are great, but ToG are not favored by the many should you want to flip it in the future. The sub however, will retain strong values.

But if you're considering to wear for a long time, both will outlive you, taken care of properly... and you should think if you'd be wearing it in a "dressier" outfit more, or a "casual" outfit more.

I'm sure many would say that sub for dressie looks okay... I think they're not bad, but not something I would do as I have other dressier options in my box.

If you want a sporty watch, buy a sub.

If you want a dressy watch, buy a TOG.

Neither watch is better than the other and both are more robust than anything you're likely to expose it to, based on your own admission.
