My favorite was the one that had been bumped and bumped and bumped, and then there was a threat . . . something along the lines of, If it's not sold then I am going to INCREASE the price and offer it again!

I don't do any of those things - the watch is either sold or it isn't.
Having said that.... You guys are a bit rough on the sellers in this instance. Many of you have no idea what it takes to go through the rif-raff of.... lowball offers ridiculous trade offers wild demands from not so known 'buyers' tirekickers 'buyers' who change their mind more often than their underwear and last, but far from least - SCAMMERS trying to take your hard-earned money Do you phone 'The Shopping Network' and complain when they say 'This is a limited time offer' knowing damn well it isn't? Do you complain everytime an ad uses marketing language to sell a product? I'm sure you don't. So, OP, back off, will ya? Until you walk in our shoes, please reserve judgement. Focus not on those who attempt to increase interest by placing a time restriction or limitation on their product (common marketing technique, btw), but on those who are using this (or any) venue to defraud and steal.

One thing I love is DavidSW's comment he always puts on his sale ads. First, and foremost, I have nothing but RESPECT for David, I have heard nothng but fantastic things about his dealings as an honest-fair and tremendous person to do business with. If I shopped with Gray dealers (I'm on of those that prefers ADs but the guys on TRF are absolutely fantastc!) then I would have no hesitation working with David, (or Tony, or Greg, or TempoKing, or Steve etc.). So this is in NO WAY a deragatory remark against David. OK? We got that straight?
Anyway, he always puts "Priced for a quick sale!" Just once, I'd liketo read an Ad from David that said: "Priced really high so it stays on this board a long time!" David? Are you listening? |

I feel for you guys. It is "rough & Tumble" in the sales world. Did sales in a previous life and found that a LOT of customers were, ah, um, liars? They'd say things like: "Well I can get a deal over here for.." My reply of course was "good for you, go get it then. Sounds like you've found a fantastic deal!"
Then so as not to sghut the door on them I'd follow up & give them a way to come back " Look, if that deal falls through or someone beats you to it, come back to me, my word is good on this price". They come back, albeit sheepishly. But on a side note, David & Bodybump, your doing something right. Keep up the excellent work! |

With all due respect, the one thing you DON'T have to go through is founding your own website to peddle your wares. You've got a ready-made market to slot yourself into here, free of charge, and it seems to serve all you professional salesmen well.

Generally, I echo the OP's insight and label the mentioned move (sales tactic), "The take away."

Either way, there seems to be a rather 'testy' vibe on TRF this afternoon...I think I'll go home now and have a beer. Chill folks.

I may be speaking out of the wrong end, but I seriously doubt that Greg is making a living off this web site. That he makes some extra scratch here, then that is his business. But to assume that he is here simply because he is able to sell free of charge is plain ridiculous.

i have to agree with..... Greg.... overall. Marketing is marketing. It works on some but I would hope we are all capable enough of making our own judgements regardless of marketing techniques.
