I finally took some time to read the instructions on how to take close up shots...this is the best that I could do with my trusty, old Canon S45, I will take pictures of my other T/T, the 15223 when it comes back from the RSC in Toronto, go easy on the newbie folks...

Very nice photos, Jason. Of course, the subject is a pretty good one to begin with!

It took me a long time to get the macro features of my camera working for me. I took some so-so shots in the beginning, but now I think I can take some fairly good closeups. Here's one:

Keep working on it, and you will get even better as time goes by!

Thanks Allan, that's a great shot of my next Rolex watch!

I tried to take better macro shots of my watch but it gets out of focus, I guess I have to practice some more.

JJ takes great pictures as well, when I grow up I want to be like JJ

So how do you take those fantastic looking shots of your watch? What kind of camera do you use? Do you use a tripod?

I've actually used different cameras. The one above was shot with a Panasonic Lumix.

Most of my better ones have been shot with the Panasonic and some of the more recent ones with a CANON Powershot A-550, 7.1 mp (not sure what model no. that goes by in your neck of the woods!).

No, I don't even have a tripod....just a rock-steady, alcohol-free hand!!

I use natural light most of the time....hardly any flash. Just set the Selector Switch to MACRO mode and you're in business.

The main thing to avoid is REFLECTIONS. They are the biggest curse, especially with Rolex which DO NOT use Anti-reflective coating on their crystals....hence plenty of light bouncing all over the place.

Try and approach the watch at an ANGLE - NEVER dead on...or else you will get a picture of yourself and the camera reflecting in the crystal!

Something like this....note the ANGLES of approach...

Don't worry about the tripod. If you can place the camera on top of any solid object like say....a telephone book or even a block of wood, you'll be fine!!

Try it a couple of times and if you're still not comfortable, then pick up a small tripod. You can get these in different sizes. You don't want something too big....just a little fella for all your "macro" shots!!
