The Bezel of My DJ is Scuffed!

I knew it would happen, but before today, when I first noticed it, it's been spotless. I picked it up on September 8th.

I knew I should have never taken it out of the box.

Now that it's got a little salt on it, the DJ is truly mine.

It's like the prodigal son coming home.

Kill the fatted calf.

They sure are beautiful while they're spotless!! I went through the same thing with my GMTII-C, after a month it had enough marks on the bracelet so that I could quit worrying about it anymore......I will have to brush those damned PCL's, they have got to go! Poor decision on Rolex's part there...

Maybe, a little magic from the cape cod polish cloth could do the trick? Is it fluted or domed?

It's domed, but it's not so bad that it needs fixing, but it is there.

I will work at getting a macro shot of the bezel. I must admit that macro is not my forte.

However, bear in mind that the fact is that such things, I can live with. They are to be expected and once the first blemish appears, the watch becomes unique to its owner.

You should see my Explorer, which I will also try to photograph soon to share the battle scars. It has acquired in the last two years.

Watches are like cars. When you start out with smooth, shiny surfaces, you're just setting your self up for disappointment, sooner or later. The best remedy is the proper mindset from the outset.

Okay, you doubting Thomases!

Here is one of my meager attempts at macro photography. My apologies to the TRF masters of macro, Jocke and Kyle.

Scuff is at 12:00 and I also believe that the lugs show some salt as well, although I had not noticed that before.

Dont worry about a thing !!!!!

In a few seconds your watch can look brand new without having you sent it to RSC or a watchmaker for buffing out the scratches.

Thanks for info, xjeeunitx, and the tutorial, Panos!

I'm not sure my hands are that stable, but the Cape Cod cloth sure seems to be a miracle worker and worth the shot.

Not a problem! I was informed by another member about the cloth. This is the least I can do for this community. From the pictures, it looks the case and lugs can use some of this polish cloth as well. I would take the bracelet off first then polish away! Good luck!

Who cares about few scuffs, when it`s about that beauty?
And, when the time comes, there`s always Cape Cod...

The scuffs don't bother me. They're inevitable and no one notices them anyway.

I feel for you Grady, however my daily wear GMTIIC is starting to show more scuffs as well.

I just don't try to look at it so critically, and besides it still looks pretty awesome to me.

It will polish out when you get it serviced or take it to a watchmaker--not too big of a deal!

I guess the prodigal son might be shown the door and you may want to hold off on killing that calf.

I won't be taking the Cape Cod cloth to the DJ, but the cloth at about $20 is quite reasonable for use polishing metals.

For those who have steady hands, polishing the bezel might be a piece of cake, but with my shaky hands, it would be a monumental disaster.

I say bring it on world! My Rolex and I can handle whatever you have to offer.

No. I'll just wait till service time. I like a little salt on my stuff.

It proves I'm not just a baby-faced showboat.

I'm a man of action who takes risks and has the scars to prove it and who expects no less of his watches.

Grady, you'd be surprised how easy it is. It doesn't matter if you have shaky hands or not since the whole case is polished. Just cut a small portion of the cloth and work the area in all directions for a polished finish. You don't have to worry about the crystal because it is made of sapphire. I would've been worried with the old DJ cases because of it's partial brushed finish but the current DJ's bezel, case, and lug has a polished finish. I too have shaky hands because of minor nerve damage from my deployment to Iraq.

Trust me, I might sound a like a sales man trying to sell these cloths but they do miracles on our Rollies. In the end, the decision is up to you.

I'll get me one of those cloths and give it some thought.

Thanks to everyone for the support.
