so as not to offend those that love their DJII watches. There have been many posts regarding the pcl's on the GMTIIC and how some people find them blingy but no one has said gaudy. Personally, i have a IIC but no DJII. I have tried them on and like the wrist presence which u claim is increased due to size and fluted bezel. They are beautiful watches and I would be honored to have one on my wrist. Congrats to those that have purchased them.

+1 To crank out 900,000 pieces of product a year Rolex has to have a range that appeals to the vast taste differences of the widest number of luxury goods buyers , no ? I suspect if every WIS designed his one PERFECT watch, he would sell a grand total of ..NONE... to every other WIS tasked the same. |

There is no way I could go below 40 after my DeepSea. My wrists can support a larger watch. In fact my 36 oyster perpetual looks out of proportion now that I have been wearing my DS and 292. I think the DJII is a sharp watch, no reason to bash it, noone is making you buy it.

I've been wearing a sub for the past 4 years and recently had the itch to buy a new, "dressier" watch and the DJ appealed to me. I think I tried on 4 or 5 and they all just felt too small.
I'll be looking for the DJII and look forward to picking on up.... (with the arabic dial, smooth bezel, oyster bracelet). :D <-- only 5'9 195. |

Don't spose you could do a close up / less blurry lume shot, would look pretty cool.

The salesman at the Rolex store made a point to say, as I was looking at the DJII case, that they were 1 mm larger than the GMT I was wearing at the time. Maybe it was the selection that the Rolex store had on display that helped create my impression... it seems that a LOT of DJII's and DJ's had diamonds on the dial and in the bezel, again not my personal taste and when massed together, a very blingy display indeed. Needless to say, I am not a fan of the DJII and I will be interested to see how it does going forward. It is interesting that Rolex has not replaced the DJ with the DJII. As pointed out above, to each his own with regard to taste in watches and they are all Rolex..... I think that Rolex is taking the line in the wrong direction. It will be interesting to see how that plays out in the future as the iphone/PDA generations not wearing watches at all move into the prime watch buying years. Will they buy watches at all and if they don't, will Rolex have made the same type of strategic decision that Omega did in the 60's that almost destroyed the company when the quartz/digital watches came on the scene in the early 70's??? |

More side by side comparison... not to persuade but just for reference. It's not a replacement for DJ, just another model line. So, I think the argument of which is better is moot. Either it's for you, or it's not... it's still a Rolex!

P.S. the Rolex shop in the South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa, Ca. is not a corp. Rolex shop, it's run by Baron & Leeds, a Rolex AD.
i.e. Geary's (Bev Hills, Ca.) has a dedicated Rolex shop in Century City, Tourneau has a dedicated Rolex shop @ the Westfield Ctr. in downtown San Francisco.

I do like the new bracelets though, in particular, the milled endlinks and clasps. They look and fit much better on the watch, unlike the vintage stamped afterthought links.

I think Rolex did a Hell of a Job and the watch looks Awesome. Rolex itself is Gaudy but that is what I like about it

I´m not a big fan either. I don´t like the new style dials, and the bezel is to big and bling.
If it comes with some more classic dials, and a smooth bezel, then I probably would be tempted. The size is perfect. I feel the same about the DD2, but I do love the platinum version I bought the Milgauss because of this, and its just perfect. |

1. Slightly bigger diameters are a secular trend in watchmaking. Don't hold your breath for watches to shrink back to 20th century sizes.
2. Re: this new DJ, I think 'gaudy' is a huge overstatement. I have no love for blingy things but this is nowhere near 'gaudy', in my view. 3. The two-tone lume doesn't do it for me, but someone else posted that they like it. 4. Pricing is what keeps Rolex exclusive. Period. They are catering to a need they've identified and they feel that they can fulfill it without undermining the exclusivity and luxury status of the brand. |

For the record.....
gaud·y1 /ˈgɔdi/
[gaw-dee] –adjective, gaud·i·er, gaud·i·est. 1. brilliantly or excessively showy: gaudy plumage. 2. cheaply showy in a tasteless way; flashy. 3. ostentatiously ornamented; garish. |

My father in law has a TT DJ II with a champagne/diamond dial. Not my favourite dial on the DJ II's as i like the TT with the ivory/stick dial, but the DJ II is a gorgeous watch and looks every bit a Rolex, and i think is better than the too small 36mm version. I love it and is one of my favourite models.
