I have a question concerning some of the Submariners.
First of all please forgive any lack of knowledge reguarding the Rolex brand or any other brand. I'm learning.
My question is that on some of the Submariners with either vintage lume or just older models I am starting to notice that in the center where the cannon pinion for the hands are, there seems to be either corrosion or something that is of a rusting or corroding effect, the hands can also have some of this also. Note: I am speaking of some of the pics that have been posted on the forum. Would this be just from age of the timepiece, (7 to 9 years) or is this because somewhere down the line the watch needed a new gasket for the back?. Thanks for your time. |

I would be somewhat surprised if you see this affect in a watch of only 7 to 9 years of age unless the watch was somehow damaged...
without photos, it's hard to know what you see, but here are some possibilities.. . The dial is a brass disc that is simply painted. There may be some degradation of the paint in that area.. . You may be seeing some grinding dust that has settled there, caused by the constant meshing and wearing of the many brass wheels and gears inside. . It could be water damage if the watch leaked at any time.. . Early Tritium dials had degradation of the lume from time to time and particles of it may accumulate. Tritium dials are all older than a decade back to the 1960's

Thanks "Tools", you kind of gave me a bit more insight on the matter.
