getting one wet...

I have always wondered... why do people shower with their watch? I know a Rollie can handle the water, but why in the shower. A pool, at the beach, or dare I say diving... I have been around here for several months now and have always wondered this. That being said, time to go wash my "kids" now...

I will shower with my watch when I want to rinse it after having just been in either salt water or Chlorine.

I wear my watch ALL the time. I don't take it off for anything. The last time I took my watch off was during surgery. Prior to that I wore it for 8 consecutive years. I don't know why I always wear it I just do. After I got into Rolex I began to rotate and now I do take them off to switch but that's the only reason.

I have heard many more horror stories about people dropping their watch on marble (or other very hard) bathroom surfaces than by keeping them on and getting them wet. Why not shower with them on? They get cleaned daily...assuming you have good personal hygiene.

It does a pretty good job of cleaning the watch. I never take my watch off.

I do the same. If I know I've been in a dusty or dirty environment, I'll generally hop in the bath with it when I get home. Having said that, I find that it doesnt always end up super clean after a bath, rinced perhaps, but not clean. I usually follow up with a proper clean under the tap which leaves it like new.

The shower or bath is the only time I ever take it off unless I am on holiday or away from home (where it never comes off).

Wouldn't the soap, shampoo, conditoner, etc., eventually get under the bezel and into the seals?

I've wondered about this too, the note after my last pressure test on my Seamaster said 300M test passed, good for everything but not showers or hottubs.

The watchmaker told me the heat variation is bad for the seals, particularly in chronos and that the shampoo (along with dishwashing liquid) has the effect of drying out the seals prematurely.

Now I haven't been told that about my sub, even though its 30 years older and plexiglass but it just sounds strange that a modern sapphire SMP would have that requirement when a sub wouldn't.

But if the watch get's serviced every 5-7 years, I'm pressed to believe showering would make it leak, ever under pressure.

My father in law who wore a DJ II champagne/diamond dial wore his watch 24/7 but funnily took it off when he had a shower. Unfortunately he died on Monday.
