GMTIIc not cutting it!! Help!
Ok, I am sure I will hear that I'm crazy, but I am also sure I will hear that I should go with what i feel....dilemma....
I recently posted that I bought GMT IIc after owning an older GMT II and an older Sub Date. I love the GMT IIc. BUT: I was recently in an AD and tried on the Explorer II (white face) and I am in ABSOLUTE LOVE WITH IT. It's very "me." Problems are mental: GMT's newer material and movement (I think), the ceramic and the seemingly larger diameter of the face. And the new clasp. But there is just something about the explorer II. Any thoughts? I am seriously, very close to going in and purchasing the Explorer. I understand this may be "a step backwards" as some would say, but maybe not. HELP! and FYI: keeping both is not an option, I would have to part with the GMT IIc. !!! HELP! |

Get the one that "sings" to you. Though, beware, selling a watch these days is tough, even one barely worn. People are looking for MASSIVE discounts!

Go for the one you really like. I would never swap my GMTIIc for an Explorer but that's just me. If you prefer the Explorer to the GMT then flip it and enjoy.

If you can't decide, I would wait a week or two see how you feel. If you can't stop thinking about it, then you probably need to get the Exp.

no such thing as taking a step backwards when it comes to Rolex ownership! they're both good watches and there's no shame in wanting one model over the other as long as its a Rolex!

Maybe you need a TT GMT IIc
Seriously, my GMT IIc is my least worn watch, the magic went almost immediately, however my TT GMT IIc was my most reluctant purchase & now its the hardest not to wear |

Life is too short not to own one's favorite watch. Buy the white Explorer II.
Personally I'm waiting for Jan/Feb so see if they update the Explorer II line. I'd love a larger grown on that one, and updated bracelet. Hopefully we can avoid a green GMT hand... |

Interesting. I'm starting to feel the same way and actually considering a TT GMTIIC. I must be getting old!

I have both an Exp II and a GMT IIC. You are right - they are as different as night & day. However, I like them equally for different reasons.
One point to consider however, is that a new Exp II (ie M or V serial) will have the same movement as a GMT IIC - the 3186. |

Agreed. You're just moving sideways. Get the one you want. That's what it's all about.

Dood, no such thing as taking a step backwards, even if you're going to a Casio! You should own/wear whatever watch speaks to you! Even if it costs less :)

Those of us who own and love our EXP II Polar would never consider it a step down from any watch. If you think it would be then it may not be the watch for you. Either way good luck with your decision.

It took about 3 weeks but I ended up selling it on the forums for a $200 loss after shipping. Not too bad. I did have to deal with about 15 lowball offers, mostly from dealers, which was kind of a drain. I narrowed my replacement watch choices to the Exp II and the GMT 16710. It was a tough choice but I eventually went with a coke GMT. I still might get an Explorer II as well. I tried a few on and they look great, are comfortable & at a great price point compared to the GMT. If you like the 3186 movement you can get one in an ExpII for much less $$. Good luck! |

Although your initial reaction is strong, it might be a good idea to sit on it. I have several watches and find I fall in/out/in love with them as time goes by (a watch is a fashion statement and varies with your mood).
Anyways, as someone pointed out above, revisit your watch several times, try different AD's, check how you look with it in the mirror (full length). It's a big purchase and there's no rush....the supply of Polar EXPII's is plenty. Some lightly used models for sale here as well. Enjoy the hunt, once you have it that's it unless you actively like to flip watches (which is a money loosing proposition these days)....sometimes the desire for something can vaporize once you have it. Good luck! Cheers |

If you can afford it, get the Exp and rotate between the two...they are both great watches.

you might end up building your collection to gmt watches, first explorer then gmt master. which makes no sense can make you feel warm inside. go for it
