Two Tone or Stainless Sub?

I am new to TRF and am amazed by the depth and scope of knowledge demonstrated by the members on this board. Thanks for everything you've all taught me. Here's my issue: I've decided that I want a used Sub when my budget will allow and I'm seeking opinions about whether to buy one with a stainless or a two tone bracelet (oyster). It will be my daily watch - - something that I wear primarily in a biz casual environment - but I also attend a fair amount of black tie events and wear suits about 20% of the time so versatility is key. So if I'm only going to have the one, should it be stainless or TT? Black face or blue? I'm not in the least bit flashy so I worry about the gold on a TT. Decisions, decisions. Thanks in advance for your advice.

I would suggest SS over TT....far more versatile IMO. I had a TT and it didn't last long - I really want to like YG on me (I like it on others) but can't ever come to terms with it!!!

Either will be nice, but I poersonally like the TT .. It all boils down to one very important factor .. Which do you prefer?? .. Either way you will make the right choice .. You can NEVER go wrong with a Rolex .. Congrats on you're first Rolex .. Wear it in great health

I have to agree I think the SS version is more versatile personally.

I like the TT DJ for a more dressy watch. My next will be a SS Sub.

With regards to versatility, I believe a 16610 LN would be your best choice

I asked myself the same question, until I just purchased a SS Submariner Ceramic 116610. I love the two tone, but I asked myself this, Do I want to spend thousands more on the two tone which will ultimately look more scratched over time? Yes, I know I know, Rolex will make it look like new again after service - but that's supposedly over 5 years. Why have a watch for five years that will look more worn, scratched etc. Now I know everyone says that gives your watch 'character', yes it does, but in the mean time - it would just irritate me.

Are you the type of person that wants to draw a bit more attention to yourself? If so, maybe the YG is a good pick.

Even though it's not 'blingy' with diamonds and a fluted bezel and all, it is definitely recognizable as a Rolex watch with real gold, I'm sure most people wouldn't think it plated, because it is a Rolex.

I'm not going to argue about the utilitarian beauty of an all stainless steel Sub, but I do indeed prefer the versatility and warmer beauty of a steel & gold Sub.

Two Tone.

Both watches are beyond beautiful, however, I think that you can wear the SS everywhere. The advantage of SS is that you can be dressed down and the watch won't look out of place or go to a black tie event and look amazing. By the way the Sub and the SD look great with a Tux on because of their beautiful black dial.

hi allan we are ok. you all ok. we have had a thaw for the moment but more to come at the end of the week. the snow has been great.

I love them both.. The TT is a bit more "bling" but still a classic. The SS can be a bit more "silent" and therefore very easy to use without getting too much attention.. You could also choose the LV? Here are mine..

I struggled with this too; I only had enough money to purchase one, so I had to make a choice. While I liked the TT look slighly more than the SS LV, my ultimate decision came down to durability, meaning in my case the ability of the watch to withstand abuse and continue to look good.

I had the blue TT for about 6 months but kept noticing that it caught people's eye, which was too much for me. I believe the value holds up better on the SS and it is much more subtle. Also, I love vintage.

If its an all-rounder watch then go SS as its the most versatile IMHO.

You can always get a TT for yor next Rolex should you have one.

Stainless steel with black face all the way. Can be dressed up or down and will remain timeless.

The TT Subs are beautiful, but I think the SS Sub is more versatile and less "blingy". I had a 16613 in blue, but sold it and kept my 16610 and 14060 (SS Subs).

This was my first Rolex and I absolutely love it. If you get the TT, I would recommend an old 16613 over the 116613. The blue is mesmorizing. The bottom line is that you cannot go wrong either way. I am lucky enough to have this one and a classic SS Sea Dweller. Please don't make me choose! Good luck in your decision.

I have a ss GMTIIc but when I saw it in TT today at the AD all I gotta say is WOW. I think you should try on both and get the one that gives you the wow factor. I don't think it matters how much attention your watch brings to other people just most important that it should get yours.

As your first Rolex sub, you can't go wrong with the more versatile SS version. Don't get me wrong, I love TT Rolexs but I still strongly suggest the SS as your first.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm definitely not looking for a "bling" factor (I actually try to avoid even using such a non-word as bling). They're both beautiful but since I'm looking for timeless beauty, versatility and (to some degree) subtlety, I'm leaning heavily in favor of SS with the black face. Must...resist...urge...to...buy...right...now. Thanks, all. Cheers.
