New Rolex - lovely wife's SeaDweller Christmas present - next to my Sub-C LV

What do you guys think?

By the way, what is the best way to reduce the band size when going to smallish wrist (6.75-7")

Watchmaker adjusted it down and told me if it doesn't feel right, just turn the bracelet around - he said it was a Rolex Trick that seems to make the oyster bracelets fit small wrists better.

Of course the nuclear option is to break the last link on the non-adjustable side and then put the new center link through the screw link. Of course, this is something that can't be reversed, so I shy from it. Also, due to the slightly difference in the width of the links, it would result in a very small (but probably discernable) bump in the bracelet on the pinky finger side of the bracelet.

Thoughts?

Congrats and all the best of course...

However in seeing those two models side by side - boy does that SD ever look good - the proportions just look perfect!

The 16600 is my absolute favorite. I would be careful about trying it on before Christmas. The Sea Dweller will cast its spell quite quickly and you may be unwilling to give it up!

Seriously great gift. Congratulations to your wife. Happy Holidays.

Wow, what a nice present!

Were you able to track down a new SD? Or is that a very gently used one? Either way it looks great.

Very cool...your wife wears a SD? I put my 16610 on my wife's wrist and it just looked comical. That said, if she wanted (and could pull off) a Sub or Sea Dweller I'd buy one for her in a heartbeat.
Awesome present!
As for flipping the bracelet...never tried it, but easy enough to give it a shot.

Alex, the owner or Watchworks in Portland (no sales tax - yes), told me that the links can only be shortened on one side, which makes the band shorter (clasp not centered) toward the 12 o'clock part of the watch. Since you can't take any links out of the 12 o'clock side of the band, and removing 2 links from the 6 o'clock side of the bracelet can make the clasp very awkward for ladies and people with small wrist since the clasp will end of sitting on the ulna bone, which due to the length of the SD (and sub) clasp would be uncomfortable.

Alex adjusted it as far as he could (with the pushers on the clasp itself) to help alleviate this, but he said I have two options:

(1) The one that works most with his clients is to just remove the bracelet and turn it around (clasp closes in opposite direction). Strange at first, but seems to feel better.

(2) Nuclear option (my words) is to have a Rolex watchmaker break the link just above the pin link on the 12 o'clock side. That would leave a hole in the center link on going through the screw link (connection link), which would effectively remove a link on the 12 o'clock side of the bracelet. I call this the nuclear option because once it's done, there's no going back. AND ... the trained eye would see that the bracelet has a jump in width (subtle but there) due to the difference in width between links.

If she loves it and is bothered by the clasp asymmetry, I'll go nuke, but thought I'd ask the EXPERTS on TRF first.

Thanks for thoughts for those that will respond

Both nice watches. I am a big fan of the green dial sub. I also like the clean sans cyclpos look on the sea dweller. I had done that once to my sub but after a year, decided to go back to the iconic look of the Rolex with cyclpos.

Funny, when you put your watches side by side, I have to say I like the lines of the sea dweller better...the way the band and case taper together. The maxicase does look more boxy at the strap case junction. Now, don't get upset because I mean no harm. I have a maxi case GMTIIC and a classic sub. I love both...just that your pictures really show the difference. Now, forget about my 2 cents and enjoy those beauties.

Congrats !

I've heard the same about turning the bracelet around.

I started to adjust all my watches myself...removing links...etc until they were right. I found that every time my AD did it it was too much on his terms.
