A bit of both; I do a lot of research, but have also been known to have bought compulsively. Now I put new models that I desire on a wish list for several months and they must stand the test of time before I pull the trigger. Many have fallen off the list while others are moved around in rank order and still remain on the list. In the end, time will tell! I call it a controlled approach to conservative growth.

I would say I am a researcher... I recall coming on this site reading JJ's threads and was enamored with the GMT and when I saw Mike's (moderator) collection that did it for me I just had to have one... Since then I have acquired the 116710, 116713, and 116718 amongst other Rolex pieces on this site. My wife would beg to differ and call me a compulsive buyer... What the heck who's keeping tabs anyway?

Research is definitely part of the fun.

I'm a compulsive researcher, but I am an impulsive buyer.

The research reduces the risk of impulsivity.

Buy them from the reputable guys on this site, like Tony (JustRolexes). He saves me tons of time and always has terrific watches at great deals.

My personal tendency is to practice extremely in-depth research prior to making any transaction final. I would strongly recommend anyone purchasing a rolex perform this sort decision making, and further to know exactly what they want.

I would agree, except that research is cold and all the logic in the world cannot overcome the emotion of seeing just the right watch at just the right time.

I did plenty of research before buying both my 114270 and my 116200, but the decision was made in the instant that I saw the watch that "did it for me" at the time.

If logic was the totality of the process, then I would have bought a Sub, but it was pure emotion that sold me on both the Explorer and the DJ.

As it is, the Sub will have to wait and I'm good with that.

nothing wrong with researching expensive, mechanical items such as a luxury watch, car, motorcycle, etc., or other costly things such as a home, where to go to college, etc.

If, however, you spend the same amount of time researching which potato chip to buy, then you should be concerned.
