SS Daytona Zenith Movements?????

Ok, so i been looking into the entire zenith movements with the SS Daytonas and I need some clarifications.

- I saw a post where a G serial was a zenith with new clasp and was a 2010 model, is this true?

- I read some posts where Zenith movement was not available in new watches as it was done away with 2 years ago, is this true?

- I also saw some information where the Daytona Zenith has been regulated down to a frequency of 28800 to keep it looking like every other Rolex, if this is true why would you want to get a Zenith movement other then rarity?

I am new to Rolex and only have a couple months under my belt in regards to information. I wish I found this forum before I bought my first Rolex, a new SS Daytona. If the Zenith is not regulated I think I might sell me new one and get a Zenith since it should move smoother then my current model. Any inputs on this will help...

I will have to put my next purchase of a SUB-C on hold since this has been bothering me.

There is a very good Thread in the rolex reference library on Daytonas.
The zenith movement was used between 1991 and 2000, and the slower speed was done for reliability and durability reasons. Your new ss daytona has the 4030 movement. No need to fret-it is a great watch. Same with the subc. Great watch ( different calibre movement since it is not a chronograph).

I have and love the Zenith Daytona - prefer it to the new model personally. Here's a cell phone shot of mine...

The slower movement was because the Zenith movement is (or was I am not sure) the most accurate chrono movement and Zenith did not want Rolex to be as accurate as they were.

There were no G zenith movements, you may have found someone who has an older Zenith Daytona and upgraded to a new clasp.

You were never able to order a Zenith Unregulated or unrestricted.

As mentioned, do a search there is a GREAT thread on the Zenith Daytona in here somewhere.

PS If I was to get a Daytona it would be one of the earlier versions of the Zenith that did not have the PCL.

I love the Zenith Daytonas--especially when the word Cosmograph is separated and sitting well below the first 3 lines--kind of floating out there on it's own!! If anyone has one of those they want to get rid of and get another with the 4 lines together-look no farther than right here!!
PS--If you also have one of those black dials where the sub dials turned a dark basty brown--will take that of your hands too!

The post about he G series Zenith, was actually a member who said he had looked into the Daytona Zenith, but opted for a 2010 S/S Daytona and bought a new G series (with the Rolex 4130 movement).
I trust the Rolex guys, they made the improvements to the Daytona (dial placements etc etc) and also decided that their own 4130 movement was superior to the Zenith 4030 - Who am I to disagree with them - I bought a brand new V series S/S Daytona in December 2010, and am very glad I did!

I like the Zenith dial better, but I don't think there's a question that the newer, Rolex movement is top notch.
Here's a nice article imo:

Rolex reduced the frequency of the Zenith caliber 3019 PHC, the world'sfirst automatic chronograph and re-designated 4030, from 36,000 bph to 28,800 bph to enable them to use the standard lubricants used on other Rolex calibers. They were concerned about excessive oil fling-off at critical bearing points using standard Rolex lubricants with the higher frequency movement.
