Icon4 CNN business review. Swatch buying Rolex?

Saw on CNN business report today, the SWATCH group is in the process of buying Rolex. Makes sense since they already own Berguet, Blancpain, Omega, and others. Maybe this explains some of the changes Rolex is making? WOnder how this will effect prices?

Oh NO! Don't tell me this is true!

I don't give a flipping damn about prices! But I am much more concerned about QUALITY and DESIGN.

I just HATE Swatch!

Hey Bo Bo,

At least they will be a dammed sight thinner and you can change the battery without sending it to an RSC.

I really don't think it's funny (not the joke made but IF this is true and Swatch buys Rolex......).

But I thought Rolex was an independant fond which can NOT be bought?? I have read in many books that Hans Wilsdorf errected the Rolex Fond to be independant and NEVER will be bought by another company??????

WTF is going on!?

Got to agree with you there 100%,and not to many truly independents left now. But would doubt it will happen as its not possible to buy out Rolex. Now Swatch and Richmond group now own most Swiss made watches already.

Hey Bo Bo,

As it happens, I have the last genuine Sea Dweller that Rolex will ever make....ever....ever.

I could be for sale for the right price.

This is a genuine non swatch watch.

PM me for a super deal.

Just checked out the "Business" link on www.cnn.com

NOTHING about Swatch buying Rolex!

If this was just a joke, it was a joke.

Please make my day and tell me this was just a joke-

Pretty please??

I don't see how any company can acquire Rolex if it is a charitable trust which operates a watch company that runs very successfully.
Now if Rolex was on the stock market with issued shares it might be a different matter.

Well, I am relieved, too!

Phew! If THAT story had been true!

I read the thread while I was working, and my colleagues asked me why I looked so concerned and angry-like.

The whole story was a joke. Thank God for that.

But it was a baaaad joke

Kidding is okay, and I have a strong sense of humor, but saying Rolex will sellout to somebody else, is definitely not funny, unless it was absolutely true with proof to back it up.

Well....MY sense of humour is also a bit too much at times.

I am just glad Swatch isn't going to buy Rolex. That would have been just awful.

Let's just see all this as yet another joke and get on with it

Well first it just cannot happen Rolex is a foundation .
But don't know why everyone tries to put the swatch group down some of the top Swiss manufactures are in that group. And where do you think Rolex got there Nivarox hairsprings from, before they started to make there own.Well from the ETA part of the Swatch group, same goes for most of the high end brands out there. And today nobody apart from Bill Gates and Microshaft has a firmer strangle hold on any one industry today.Other than Hayek from the Swatch group, now Nivarox supplies most of the balance springs to the industry. And even Rolex who now have there own manufacturing capacity most of the older balance springs came from Swatch group Nivarox. And because of this strangle hold Rolex have started there own parachrome spring at a huge cost. But the main reason is simply because they had too,and mostly every Rolex out there has a part made by the Swatch group keeping its heart beating.

Impossible. The foundation makes it impossible to sell Rolex.

Well, can't believe some people actually got upset reading my post! Rolex is just a company that makes watches! Besides, there are some really good Watch manufactures that are owned by Swatch (Blancpain, Berguet). IF it had not been for SWATCH buying those companies, they probably would not exist today. Well, point of my joke, was how so mamy watch companies are owned by SWATCH today. With globalization, the days of the small manufacturing company are coming to an end.

Come on guys... if you do even a serach on google about Rolex you'd see they are owned by a foundation and are not incorporated so how can they be bought out... now you don't need any coffee today as you are all wide awake and hearts are pumping!
