Icon5 Two color bezel

Two color bezels, i.e, pepsi, get a lot of love on these boards. I was curios if there is a function to the colors or is it just for a cosmetic appearance.

Why 12 hours?
It must be the engineer in me asking.

One reason for the 2 colors is to delineate between daytime and night time hours.

Hello Joe!!
Two color bezels were introduced by Rolex in their GMT watches, designed to tell the time in two different globe places at same moment.
So the dial is used to read a fourth hand, and their engineers must thought a good idea to diferentiate the hours of day and those of night, with red and blue and later red and black.
If you take a look to the bezel of a GMT model, youŽll find its markings for the 24 hours of the day, being between 6 AM through 18 Pm in the red zone (daylight hours) and the others in the blue or black zone (night hours).
Then a quick look will help the owner to differentiate the local time, which reads inside the dial, as usual, with the time in a different time meridian, which reads on the outside bezel and fourth hand as said.
(Of course, the minutes hand is the same in both cases).

I hope this helps to answer your question, and I send my cordial regards,
Abel.

Thanks guys.
I thought that may have been the case, but I wasn't sure. Makes sense.
