milgauss problem?????

Hi everyone,

My cousin just bought a brand new Milgauss from an AD, or so he thought! It is a V41xxxx serial number and the clasp code dates Dec 2008!

I know it's technically a new watch etc. etc. but surly if you specifically ask for a 'new' watch, you shouldn't get one that's two years old.

To any Milguass owners out there, do you have a serial number much later, or even a random (especially a white dial)? Could it be a 'low' V because they are very slow sellers (it was supposed to have come straight from rolex)?

Thanks.

Serial numbers and clasp codes are only a guide, and no certain way of ascertaining things. It doesn't, for example, tell you when the movement was put in. Rolex always keep a stock of models, it will be absolutely new, and it will be fine. Don't worry

V serials were also released in 2008, some times watches take a while to get to Ad's, or parts are made and coded and then used a bit later etc etc , can sit in stock for a while. the code will be from 2008, could run a bit longer etc etc

Dont worry the watch will be brand new

Thanks for the replies, just seems a loooong time for parts to be 'kicking around'. It's over two years! I suppose this is why they went to the random numbers; one has to wonder when they will stop the clasp codes!

Would be interesting to hear from any Milgauss owners, reference serial numbers and purchase dates.

If it's any consolation, a friend last week bought a brand new Deepsea from an AD and it had a V serial number.

A month ago, another friend bought a S/S ceramic Sub that also had a V serial. So I'd say that there are still many V serial watches sitting in ADs' cases all over the world.

As long as it's not been worn before me I wouldn't care what the serial says

Brand new Milgauss in Dec/10, V serial, with 2007 clasp code.

Brand new GMT IIC in Jan/11, V serial, 2009 clasp code.

No worries at my end.

I agree, my V series DJ (Jan 2010) and Explorer (Oct 2009) are both on 2008 clasp codes. Nothing to worry about. My Dec 2010 SS Daytona has what appears to be a random clasp code, so dating clasps is going to be a thing of the past soon (just like case codes).

All these internet codes could ever tell you was that a case was stamped sometime between X&Y years. Now how old that movement could be in the case well only Rolex knows that one. When you think of the many thousands of clasps again they are not made to a day, week, or year, is just a estimation. At the moment there is V,G and the random codes around all this means V started very late 2008 right up into 2011 to much enthuses is put on these internet codes.

Saw an F serial day date at an AD... And even though that serial is "old" by the Internet... The watch was brand new! And I sure as heck wouldn't have minded owning it! I don't get all the gripe over new serial numbers.. You're buying a watch that is known for it's longevity! And most pay a PREMIUM for NOS vintage Rolex! And compare this to cars.. People will pay TONS of money for original "vintage" cars with NONE of the safety features of today's vehicles, etc.. But the most well known and time tested watches in the world get combed over for a clasp code?? Ahhh! Drives me nuts! Enjoy the watch! Look at the dial to tell THE TIME! that's what it's MADE to do! Why the heck are ya staring at the clasp!?!?
