4 digit model numbers
15XX movements
Acrylic crystals
Matt Dials (Except for early gilt/gloss dials)
Tritium
Silver date wheels
Oh, and Rolex USA won't service it....
Take your pick.....

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread but what's the difference in cars between a vintage and a classic? And where does an antique fit in?

Acrylic/plastic crystal should do it for Rolex.

These yardsticks work well for present day, but will need to change over time. In 30 years, people will call a 16610 "vintage."

Depends on what part of the world you live in. There are some countries where you would be considered over-the-hill.

I think it's 30+ years as sapphire crystals made it in 1979-1980.

I believe, like some of the other posts here, that acrylic crystals on back are vintage. I would also place the 16800, 168000 and GMT 16760 in the vintage category. I believe the Zenith movement Daytonas might also be considered vintage as well as a few other sapphire crystal models.

I think 4 digits covers it for me--much of the rest are features of a 4 digit watch. By the time this subject is posted again it might change--nahhhh I doubt it--not in a few weeks!

Submariner 16800 production ended around 1986 and was produced for six years, so I would consider this vintage. It also was produced in two dial variations - one with the plain, model 1680-style number markers and the other with the gold trim around the number markers.
