★★★ Rolex Pen Giveaway ★★★ ....WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Mosco (Greg) has kindly offered to give one of these brilliant pens away to a forum member.
These pens are not readily available and cannot be purchased from retailers. Mosco has a small number of them available and is giving 2011 Pledge Members the chance to get one of these pens for free. To have a chance to win this great pen all you need to do is: A. be a 2011 Pledge Member/Patron; and B. share in a post in this thread a significant "Rolex related moment" that happened to you. At the end of a week or so a random sequence (http://www.random.org/sequences/) will be performed by me of the number of posts in this thread and the first number of the sequence will be correlated with the post # and that 2011 Pledge Member (if it satisfies A&B) will win the pen. There will be runner-up prizes to be announced along the way...... Thanks Greg (Mosco) for your extremely kind and generous support of the forum and the goodwill to all members

I went to my first Rolex GTG last year. To me that was a pretty significant Rolex moment. I met alot of good people and they all shared in a new interest that I just recently got into. Not to mention the ability to see alot of nice watches.
Thanks for the oportunity. Keep up the great work!!!

My "Rolex Related Moment" (RRM) occurred a few days ago.
I have been agonizing (AGONIZING, I tell you) between three different models for my first Rolex. As you know, none of them have "everything". I was leaning toward a 116710, but not certain. I downloaded the GMT-II simulator app from Rolex and started playing with it. I looked at the time (see screenshot) and GASPED when I saw that the time on the simulated GMT-II matched the time on my computer. "FATE!" I screamed. "Truly, this must be the watch for me!". Only later did I realize that the app reads the local time :) so it always matches, but that's OK. I now feel great about my decision, and I'm aggressively PM'ing anyone who may have an 116710 BNIB so that I can get this watch bought! You have to realize, I was staring at the screen, talking to myself "OK, the green hand is GMT24, the bezel is West Coast time, so the hour hand should be local time... that's 8:42... WHAHAHAH?!?!?" I hope you enjoy this RRM. |

My significant Rolex moment was what started it all. I was doing an estate appraisal (coins) and close-out (buying it all) and in amongst the coins was a 1967 Rolex Cellini (in my sig). It got me started down the Rolex path and watches and TRF!
I just bought one of these pens from Greg/Mosco (they are fantastic), so if I were fortunate enough to win it; I'd like to re-donate it to be a secondary prize in the next TRF Rolex giveaway (should Steve do one!). Chris - Numismatist

First of all thanks Greg. My significant Rolex moment isn't just one moment but great moments that happy everyday by being on this forum. I came to this forum to learn about the brand when I decided I wanted to finally buy a luxury watch a couple of years ago. I was just an observer the first year and just took it all in. Then when I bought my first Rolex I felt worthy to be a contributor. I have realized more and more what a great place this really is. I now come on here essentially everyday and I always learn something new, have a good laugh and engage in a little banter on various topics with other great members. This is the only website I come to everyday! Thanks TRF!

My Rolex moment was dragged over the course of waiting for my first forum purchase! First my package was delayed, then I got a package but it was for SOMETHING ELSE!!! Then, my package was missent! Then... it arrived while I was talking about it being missent!!! LOL Please find attached thread, it's an epic tale of twists and turns.... oh, and girlfriend crafted felt submariners!
To sum it up: Nervous about when it would get here.. thinking it would be here in 3 days... nervous about missing the due date by 4 days... mean postal workers... excellent and friendly sellers... supportive forum members/fellowship.. it's all in the story. http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=161227 |

My significant moment has to do with me having a wife that has absolutely no interest in watches, Rolex or otherwise. She's known for many years how badly I've wanted a Rolex and couldn't understand it to save here soul and yet, she surprised me with my first on our 25th wedding anniversary.
Thanks for doing this for us guys. |

1978........When I made my first Rolex purchase (pictured below).
Was $300.00, which at that time was 1 months rent......for an "old" watch, no less! I recall how nervous I was making that first purchase. Loved that watch, and wore it daily, for many, many years....including the deliveries of both of my children. They both remember that watch vividly, when they were growing up. Still have that watch, some 33 years later, and a few more, at that! Will go to my son, one day, along with the rest, but it will be the most meaningful for him, I think...... Thank you, Steve and Greg, for the nice gesture, and for encouraging such nice stories.....

How can I write about a significant Rolex moments when I do not even have a pen? Only it should make me qualified.
My first experience was in the Rolex 10 years of age when a friend of my father always bragged about his beautiful Rolex watch. All this harping on how good it was made somewhere that I got an unwanted interest in the brand. When I got older, there were somewhere in the back of my head that I must have this watch one day. When my finances finally allowed me to buy a Rolex so it was it a SS DateJust. When I have a few years later met my father's friend I have not seen in years so I proudly showed my watch for him and said: Now I have a Rolex. He looked at me and laughed and said: You remember the watch I use to have? That Rolex copy I had was broken long time ago. I was flabbergasted (it does not happen often) then I burst out laughing and said: Things that happen are strange, you've led me into an interest that you bragging about, and your weapon was a $ 20 Rolex. Now I have a dozen and he have still none and he knows zero about the brand.

My significant Rolex Moment happened this past Christmas when my wife gave me my Sub as a present. I had commented on how much I liked this watch, but I didn't have a clue that she was going to buy it for me. To say I was surprised is an understatement. I was shocked and I enjoy my watch every day and every time I look at it.

what a nice gesture! thanks....
my favorite rolex moment to date was watching my two-year old and four year-old recently fight over handling my explorer II....very, very cute, until it ended in tears for the younger one, and, ultimately, for the older one, when i had to take it back. i decided then that i have to get another one that i really like, so that some day they each have one that i can give them. now, all i need to do is save and find the right one. |

I've had many significant rolex moments. I always wear my DJ to the casino as I won big one trip and bought it at the onsite AD. It was my first.
However, today I've been having some great moments with one of my newest Rolexes. After years of having my head in the sky, my SO convinced me to start taking flying lessons. I've taken to it like a fish to water and am working hard to become the best and safest pilot I can be. Everytime I've been in the air so far, I've had my trusty gmt2c on my wrist. Many years from now I'll look at the watch and have fond memories of learning to fly in the winter of 2010-11. The only other watc with that kind of sentimental value to me is the before mentioned datejust... |

My significant Rolex moment occured at a small watch shop I visited to buy a link for my jubilee bracelet. My wife was reluctant to go inside with me because there was a shoe store adjacent to the shop.
She reluctantly followed me inside , and as the watchmaker and I were looking through his stash for the right link, I noticed she put on my readers and began looking at his watches for sale in his display. I was amused watching as her reluctance turned into fixation on a watch. She asked if she could see it, then tried it on, spent five minutes looking at it on her wrist, and said "I want that watch." Being a week before Christmas, I naturally said that we had pretty much finished up our shopping and we would have to wait until after Christmas to buy another watch. She had just told me that same thing a week before as I was druling over a watch on the forum. The ironic part of the story is that I had planned on making this trip by myself, as the wacthmaker had called me earlier in the week about my interest in a nice 36MM Tudor Sub he had traded for. It was the exact watch she had picked out of the display and wanted. The only downside to the story is that her obvious interest left me with little negotiating room when I came back to buy it. She is now sporting a nice sub........ |

Arriving home only to find that my Submariner that I had bought some 20 plus years earlier on my honeymoon had been stolen.....
The sad thing is that I wore the watch 364 days a year...This was the one day that I had left for a short while without it on...... Alas..... |

Grissom (Nathan) has very kindly offered to give away a genuine Oakley Watch Vault.
These great carry cases have a kind of carbon fibre shell with a soft interior. Excellent for keeping a second watch in while travelling or just taking a second watch with you. So the 1st runner-up will receive a (large) Oakley Watch Vault which can carry any size watch. Shown is a (small) vault, but the giveaway is a large vault (just a little larger). If you want to carry a smaller watch in the larger vault just put a little bubble wrap or tissues inside to pack out the vault. These are great and thank you very much Grissom (Nathan) Man you guys are lucky

My Rolex moment happened when I wasn't even wearing my Rolex. I allowed a very attractive female friend of mine to wear my GMT IIC out on the town while visiting Chicago the other weekend. She completely fell in love with it and now I am positive she would love to have one of her own. For some reason I never get any looks while wearing it but she got plenty, lol I must add also that it looked great on her.

Greg you're a gentleman mate.........
Years ago I needed some cash very quickly & had to sell the two Rolex's I'd promised as 'inheritance pieces' to my boys who were then maybe...... 8 & 5 years of age? (or something like that anyways.....!!) Fast forward two...? three....? maybe even four years & we're moving home. While my wife is helping my eldest son pack up his room she comes across his 'Box of Important Stuff' like sketches he'd done, scrap-book type pieces, photo's of mates & girlfriends. you know the kind of stuff..... & a sketch of a watch. The sketch had notes written next to it with simple descriptive terms like "black face", "metal rim with black numbers", "white dots"..... etc etc etc. It was obviously a sketch of my Explorer II & when my wife asked him why he'd kept it so long he said...... "When I make some money..... I'm gonna buy Dad his watch back". To me........ it just doesn't get any cooler than that.

My Rolex moment was getting this watch. It was manufactured around the year I was born. I got an incredible deal on it. The price was so low it was nearly a gift! I absolutely love this watch. Receiving it was indeed my "Rolex Moment".

My most significant Rolex related moment?
Examining the inner case markings and hallmarks on a ratty old pocket watch I'd just acquired and realizing that it was indeed a priceless 1908 Wilsdorf & Davis.......

I guess my greatest Rolex moment was the morning of September 22, 2008. I was having breakfast in a restaurant where I had worked about a year before.
One of the other customers recognized me and caught my attention and gave me a wave. I noticed the watch on his arm and not recognizing it, I asked if he'd tell me what it was. He didn't say anything, but he took off the watch and motioned for me to come over. Up until then, I'd been buying a lot of inexpensive watches and while I worked at the restaurant, it was a sort of game I used to play with the customers as to which watch I would be wearing on any given day. When I got to the table, he handed me the watch and I stood there gazing upon the first polar Explorer II that I'd ever seen. In fact, to my knowledge it was the first Explorer II I'd ever seen. As I stood there, my mouth agape, I thought to myself with regards to a prestige watch, which to that point I'd never owned, "If not now, when." I thanked him and his wife for having been so cordial and after having finished my breakfast, I left with the intention that I would very soon buy me a prestige watch. As I was driving home, I passed the Rolex AD near my apartment and two men were standing out front. It was just a few minutes before they would open. I pulled in and asked if they carried Omega, since I'd been eying a Deville on the internet for awhile. They said they didn't carry Omega, but that they did carry Rolex and told me that a store nearby carried Omega. I said I'd be back later to take a look around. In the meantime, I went to the Omega dealer, only to learn that they were liquidating their Omega line and had no men's styles in stock, but would be happy to let me look at their mid-range Swatch Group watches. I declined and headed back over to the Rolex AD and before I left, I had put down a deposit on an Explorer and later that day after shuffling some money around, paid off the balance. It just seemed that on that day, I was destined to own a Rolex and I haven't looked back. I'm so happy that the Omega AD was out of stock. I guess sometimes some things are just meant to be.

Thanks as always Stevo for making TRF a great forum and to Mosco and Grissom for their generosity.
My significant moment occurred last June at the golf club, when after the game my playing partner showed me his Rolex. He has owned the watch since 1979 and still speaks about it and is as careful with it, like he just bought it. After his testimonial I became interested and then started to research the brand and the models and came across TRF. The rest is history, and I have since purchased not one, not four but more. I think I'm done purchasing for now (maybe), but its great to relive those watch arrivals through all the new owners on TRF. |
