Rolex GMT Buying Guide

Hi,
I am a completely new to the Rolex Vintage World and wanted to have some of your advice to buy one. U am living in HK and went to a store today where I found a bunch of GMT Rolex. Some of them looks newer than others. I got the following serials from the guy:
5484402 (1977)
6274550 (1980)
2836655 (1969)
4453914 (1976)
9198737 (1986)

Here are my questions:
+ Which one is the most collectible?
+ Some of them looked "rusty" inside. Especially the tracks. How is it possible? Does it mean the watch was not properly maintained?
+ What are the basic questions I need to ask to the guy?
+ Is the Pepsi bezel more sought than the black one?
+ Offer price is 39,500HKD (5000 USD) for all of them. Is it correctly price?

I will go back to the store and send you pictures, it will make everything easier.

Thanks in advance for your help,

T.

Icon7 Lots of lots of questions

I am no GMT expert but there are a lot of questions:

1. Circa
2. Dial type (gilt? radial dial? matte? )
3. Insert (mark?)
4. Bracelet (make)
5. Hands (mini?)
6. Accessories (papers? box?)

If you have US$400 to spare, "Rolex GMT-Master: Collecting Wristwatches" will be the definitive guidebook.

Or www.vintagerolexforum.com

Cheers & good luck

p/s Will look forward to see the pixs

Well what I think:
1969 is the most collectible, but the one a collector should own is a PCG gilt dial with mini hour hand, yes it is much more expensive than $ 5.000
Black bezel inserts are for the 16750 or latest 1675
Clear movement is very important
Case should be in good shape
Remember the most important think is the watch, but is lovely own a complete B&P set

Can't say a whole lot with out pictures. The best watch to buy is the one that is in the best shape--and yes the 69' would be most collectible from that group but as stated above a PCG gilt would be what I would try and find with mini hour hand. Again--all depends on condition.

Welcome to the Forum!

As others have mentioned, pictures would be great.

As far as purchasing any of these watches, you need to do your homework to make sure you are buying a proper GMT, year production, with the proper dial/hands etc.

We can help you before you buy.....not after, though!
