All of the sudden 2 out of the last 4 days when I wake up my Sub has stopped. I have to rewind it and reset it. Any advice?

Well first how long was your watch on wrist before you took it off.Did watch have sufficient reserve to run off wrist.Now try this simple test give your watch around 40-45 crown full turns.Watch should run now around 38-42 hours off wrist,if it does all is well.And then concluding perhaps not wearing long enough,or active enough to keep watch fully wound.If watch is say over 5 years old then it could be a service is now due,or possible auto winding fault.

Are you giving it a full 40 winds, or just a few to get it going? If the latter, give it a full 40+, then it should be fine.

If you are a first time Rolex owner, you are probably suffering from "Baby my Rolex" syndrome. When I first got my new Rolex from an AD, I walked around practically trying to keep my watch from swinging to hard. The next morning I woke up and found that it had stopped just 10 hours off the wrist. I read the manual, gave it a full 40 winds, and started wearing it like a normal watch. It has not stopped yet. The other 2 Rolex's are on watchwinders.

Hi Nickq,

My new GMT master stopped on me while I am wearing it 24 hrs! It is only 2 weeks old and it had stopped a number of times - 3 of which it was on my wrist.

I was really pissed and off I went to the RSC to get it fixed. They did not have a good reason why my watch stopped while on the wrist.

On the day when I sent in for servicing, they said that it could be that the hands were sticky.

On my collection day (today), they said new watches were sometimes not run for months and hence the initial running will not be smooth. Also, they suggested that I could have knocked it too hard against something.

I didn't recall hitting on something with my NEW GMT. I am monitoring how the GMT is working from today onwards and I will give it one month worth of time for it to get its act together before I condemn the brand and sell it off on the pre-own market!!! It is really giving me too much issues for such a hefty price tag.

Meanwhile, give it some time and have faith (for another few weeks at least).

I have had this watch since 99 and dont baby it. I wore it for 15 hours yesterday. Ill check tonight and see what happens

Around 8 years ago my Sub would keep on stopping. It was the winding spring thing inside (don't know the technical term). It had actually snapped and was very short so it didn't run for very long.

Happened again last night and stopped after only 2 hours. My AD said it might be the counterweight. Any idea how much that would run me?

Usually I take a new Rollie and attach it to my 3 year olds ankle.
Then I let him play in the pool for an hour, he swims well.
Bingo, no worries about character or winding

Well, the main spring is really the culprit in automatic watches. It took 2 months before my jeweller was able to clean and order a mainspring cuz he does not have a Rolex account-he ordered more than one since he understands my Rolex needs.You don't have to sell the GMT its not the brand its just mechanical watch failure.

This is another of several "watch stopping" incidents.

Clearly we have a pandemic beginning. Do you suppose it is crossing continents by way of air or sea? Is it the weather? Part of global warming?

Should we take action to protect our watches?

If we do nothing will it continue?

I personally feel it's due to extra-terrestrials. I know they're here I just can't prove it yet. Excuse me, I've gotta go put some new tinfoil in my hat!
