Look What I Found in the Back of my Dresser

:,

Found this in the back of my dresser, in a box that I have not opened in a long time. It was a high school graduation present from an uncle to me in 1976. I remember not really falling in love with it, since it is a timex. He did tell me that this was "new" technology, that we would soon be seeing everywhere, called quartz. I did wear it on occassion for a year or two, but then put it in a box, and forgot about until now. I did not even open the back, and assume it still has the original battery that came with it. I did not wear a watch much in college, and bought a dress watch when I started working.

The look is unmistakable, and probably why I just knew my first Rolex had to be a ss sub...looks pretty close huh?

Interesting find! I graduated in 1979 and was convinced I would be getting my first Rolex! Boy was I delusional!!! I did get a Seiko though. I was pretty disappointed

Interesting pics. A real time capsule from 1976.

That is a terrible strap, but I do like the watch quite a bit.

I have to admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for Timex and own about seven.

Timex has always done what it does well and that to me is as admirable as Rolex doing what it does well.

It should also be noted that Timex survived all other American watchmakers before it was finally sold to some European outfit.

I'm still a fan, though.

Oh, and I'm cool with quartz, too, though I doubt I'll ever buy another. I have plenty, as it is.

Timex has its purpose and I appreciate it, esp when I'm deployed. It runs right up there with my Casio and Suunto for banging around in the field.

Your uncle was thoughtful and that's what counts the most.

You should list that on Fleabay. I bet their is a collector or two that might give you a pretty penny for that watch.

The best Timex anything was when they find the guy's arm on Hill Street Blues and Renko says, "Takes a lickin', keeps on tickin'!"

that watch would actually be pretty cool if the strap was changed out, haha.

Hard to see in the picture, but the face is blue. I actually gave thought to putting on a new bracelet and wearing it. I think I'll just leave it as is for the sentimental value.

Timex deserves respect for being what it was advertised to be. I can't see a lot of detail on your watch, but that thing might look great on a Nato. That 70's diver style was pretty common for a lot of brands.

I've got to say that that could be the ugliest strap I've seen in a long time.

Come'on guys, what's so bad about the strap. The texturing on the plastic would fine in a high level German car.
