How many years does Rolex keep discontinued model parts?
Will there be parts for the Sea Dweller, Explorer I, etc 30 years from now do you think? Just wondering.

Well as for movement parts they are both current today,as all the present oyster line except the chronos. Are all based on the cal 3135 with or without added complications. Now that was introduced in 1988 and has remained unchanged to present day. Except now for some now having the in-house escapement parts. So you will have no problem with parts a long time in future with any modern day Rolex..

Rolex used to actually advertise that they kept parts in stock for 30 years after the discontinuation date.. I haven't seen the ads in a while, but there is no reason to think that they would suddenly go less than that.....
As Padi says, all of the movements used in those watches are still in production, so it's likely that parts will be around well beyond 30 years from now.....

These are replaced with whatever latest version the same model last came with..
This is why a matte dial 16800 will get serviced with a newer gloss wg surround dial, but a 1680 will still get the matte painted dial.

That is very interesting. So If you get a replacement dial when you service a 1680 you get a period dial complete with tritium and all?

Nope, you will get a matte dial without WG surrounds and Luminova.

I was told by my Ad when asking about this that Rolex keeps parts on hand for 30 years after the end of a model.
