Submariner C Date vs GMT Master C ? And difference between SubC 2010 vs 2011 ?
Hi guys, I got questions about this scenario :
1. What do you guys think about the SubC and GMT Master C (both Date ofc) ? what's should be my first Rolex at 23? 2. About the SubC, I got an offer for 2 version , both brand new, 2010 and 2011 ? <<<= are they any different guys? I meant about details such as links, case ...etc ? 3. What comes with a BNIB Submariner C ? I mean everything . Thanks. Stev. |

Only you can really make that decision, try them both on and get the one that sings to you.
A SubC is a SubC is a SubC no differences.

I am in the same quandary at this time, as well. I think that, at least for for the average individual, the GMT is more useful. (I haven't been to past 330ft in the ocean anytime recently, lol.) Additionally, I think that the GMT has more versatility as far as dressing up and down.
That said, you can't go wrong with ANY Rolex! Try them both on and see which one feels better. Worst case scenario, you buy one and wear it for a couple of months before you decide you made the wrong decision, trade it on here for the other and live happily ever after. Best of luck in your hunt! |

Can't go wrong with either. As Dan said, a Sub C is a Sub C, absolutely no changes have been made since launch. You can probably get a better price on a GMT than a Sub, there's still considerable demand for them, less so for the GMT. As for what you get with the Sub:
White cardboard sleeve Small Size green Rolex box Microfibre Cleaning Cloth Dark Green Submariner instruction manual Named and dated credit card-style guarantee in green leather holder, with a warranty booklet The watch itself Plastic bezel protector (although this isn't important) Red chronometer tag Green tag with matching serial number |

do you like PCL? would you ever go 300m under water with your rolex own? do you travel?
ask yourself these sort of questions... i chose the GMT because i love the new bezel and the large numbers pop out, and i love the pcl even though it is prone to scratches. And the GMT function i would use much more in my life time then going 300m under water with my watch. just go to the AD and try them both on... have a good look at them(you will know which one you want), thats probably the best way to decide.

I'm sure that in my life i will travel more than dive under 100m lolz. that's def for sure.
But in term of value when I need to resale in the future, dont you think that the SubC is a better one interm of long term investment guys ?? I tried on the SubC and loved it, havent got the chance to try on the GMT though but from the design point of view, I thought they both pretty much the same ? Thanks for the reply abt the diff between 2010 and 2011, and the package detail. |

Why are you buying the watch to resell? Why not to wear and enjoy? Sounds like you have your answer. A coin toss should solve your problem since you don't seem to have a preference. Lots of little design differences - clasp, finish, time setting etc... The Sub is so common and mass-produced, it should not be considered an investment IMO. |

As previously noted, when it is right it speaks to you. That seems crazy but it is true. It is a feeling many express here on the Forums. It certainly made the difference for me. I felt it as soon as I put my GMT on at the AD. It is a great feeling to experience; especially when making such an important and somewhat costly decision. Because the watch sang to me I have never looked back on, or regretted my decision. To me this experience has been more than just "purchasing a watch." Hard to define but it is much more than that for me. Good luck. If you do not "feel" something for either watch that is something to think about too.

The fact is that I havent tried on the GMT, so I might . Im talking about reselling in the future because as many people in this forum knows, and they all did sell some of the watch sometimes in their life, maybe financial problems, maybe to fund another watch, so I have to look at resale value of course. You obiviously dont want to buy a watch today , and next year sell it for half what you paid right ? |

A different take- as for usefullness unless you are a pilot or such you may be surprised how often the timing bezel on the sub comes in handy. And for traveling just set the pearl at the number of hours ahead or behind for a second time zone as a reminder then do the math( WITHOUT a calculator please). The glidelock clasp should not be discounted-it is amazing and allows the watch to be perfectly sized no matter what the temperature or your activity level.
Neither has an advantage when it comes to dressing up or down, they are just too similar. PCLs ae a personal choice; if you are thinking reselling later they scratch too easily. Ant go wrong either way really. As others have said buy which one YOU like. Cheers |

For the GMT, I'm sure I can do the math mate lolz, I'm a maths student lol. But I wont dive under 100 anytime soon or planning to do anyway lolz. But the glidelock is very useful I think, it only exists in the SubC right ? not in the GMT right? and please tell me what "PCLs" means ? thanks. |

PCL - polished centre links
The GMTIIC has an Easylink instead of the Glidelock. Still useful though. |

I have travelled when it was really hot and my wrist changed quite a bit and the Easylink was okay for me. The extra 5mm really does wonders. If I had a choice, I'd probably go with a glidelock watch. |

Really when it comes to water resistance almost no one that has a sub needs that kind of depth. Recreational divers rarely go beyond 120 feet. So any 100 m watch would be fine.
However what a deeper rating gives is greater Insurance as the watch is getting a little closer to requiring servicing and the gaskets are potentially drying up. I remember diving with a 100 m watch a few years ago that leaked at about 45 feet. Chances are if it was a 300 m watch it would have lasted longer and deeper. |

My wrist changes a lot, especially in our climate ( winter sometimes -30, summer can be over +30 and humid). My previous Tag had the equivalent of flip lock and it was all or nothing. The glidelock can be changed in small increments at any time. Again I can't say enough about this clasp!

For cooking or parking time, the sub bezel is wonderful. Sub!

The PCLs seem to be a deal-breaker for some people. Personally - I like them and agree with an earlier comment that you can dress the watch up or down. I wear mine with a suit (yes, a whole different discussion) and think the PCLs work well in my business environment but also don't look out of place with a t-shirt.

Thanks guy, I think the SubC with glidelock is winning me over. Even though the GMT is useful when travel, but I'm sure my iphone can help me that much easily and my calculation in my head should work just fine lolz.
Cheers !!! |

They are my some of my favs out of new rolex models. I went to purchase the Subc but my AD only had the LN. I tried on the GMTc and I was so impressed. Fact is for me that many of my friends have subs and I wanted to do something different.
So GMT IIc it is and I could'nt be happier. For me I just wanted a sport watch that none of my locals had. I still want the LV so hopefully I can pull off both! Cheers my friend whatever you decide!

oh, btw - you are aware that the Sub C glidelock clasp is longer than the Easylink on the GMTIIC right?
