ipad 2 or macbook air?

What are your thoughts?

Weight is close to same?
Screen is about the same?
One is a lapbook, one is a tablet?
One has apps, one doesn't?
One does flash, one doesn't?

hmmmm....anyone else try to decide this and come to a conclusion?

iPod
iPod touch
iPad (original and annoyed there's another so soon)
Mac book

And out of them all there is nothing that can touch the iPad, it's more portable than Mac book, I can be reading and replying to emails and Mac book not even turned on.

Any big computer work I do on the Mac. I own a restaurant and do accounts and menus on that.

The only thing about the iPad as you stated is no flash it drives me bonkers but still think it's great despite that

Thus rendering the Mac book practically unused

It's really an application-specific question.

Weight is NOT close to the same, that one pound is a 75% increase and you'll notice it.

Both have app stores now.

Flash is less relevant every day, I have uninstalled it on my Macbook Pro as even it's adherents will admit it's a horrid battery drain and primary malware point of entry. I probably don't run into a flash-infested site that I want to access more than a few times per week, and I run that in Chrome.

I will say that I almost NEVER take my laptop home or on a trip now that I have an iPad. Very rarely, when I know that I have much spreadsheeting on the agenda.

Toss in the ATT or VZW cheap 3G, airplay to send video to your TV wirelessly (or HDMI adapter if you prefer), compact bluetooth keyboard if you must and dozen hour battery life... there is a reason it's the most successful consumer product ever, and yet to hit it's stride.

It's a whole different market. You can't compare a laptop and a tablet with mobile OS. Ipad is good for surfing, communication, entertainment and reading. Laptop is for everything else you need to use a computer for.

Both- totally different as stated above. I use the iPad 2 at work and laptop at home except when I am sitting on the couch watching the Pens like right now!! The ipad2 is a great travel computer but I have everything hooked up to my laptop.

The moment I got my Macbook Air the iPad became redundant....simple. And there is an app store for macs now.

I find the air way quicker...love the keyboard (full) and the weight /size is incredible.

The pads virtual keyboard is awful in comparison....

Do you have but one watch? And if you have more than one, what differentiates them?

My 2 cents - get both. It's the utility of each that differentiates - not apps, weight, etc.

Out and about, for example at the track, I take the iPad because it launches instantly, I can fetch rulebook quotes, race results, Youtube lap videos, etc.

If I used the MacAir I'd be fighting screen brightness, battery life, dirt in the keyboard, etc.

My Daytona goes to the track, my Air-King goes to the dinner...you get the idea, right?

I chose to go with an 11" air instead of an ipad2. Deciding factors were that I can type and do a lot more on a laptop, and run full versions of software like xcode, aperture etc...
The Air is almost instant on/off and very light and thin.

You need to spend an hour or two at the Apple Store (the real Apple Store, not Best Buy etc.) and you'll figure it out.

It is REALLY a specific question , the right answer will only fit you.

Both is nice, but I could get by with the iPad as my only electronic device (with a bluetooth headset for phone calls). I couldn't get by with my iPhone as my only device, or my MBP.

Good to hear from a double owner and the keyboard is important to me. You see I type really fast and the touch screen sloooooooooooooooooows me down. I notice the touch screen doesn't bother slow typers like my wife, but it drives me crazy to not type fast.

Is the standby time what apple claims? 30 days on standby? Really?

Also for anyone else considering this, it looks like the macbook air takes up about 12 GB of disk for OS.

Meaning, if you get the 64GB model, you only have 48-50 left as disks are never truly 64GB, most likely 60-61GB.

Missed this post. Yeah, I was at the apple store for about an hour today.

I have my iphone, so it is down to air or ipad. I'm leaning towards the air.

it depends, if you just need the internet here and there, youtube, email, music movies? ipad 2 is perfect, just got one and loving every bit of it... if your looking for a computer, then look for an actual computer, i have the 3g version and the internet is lightning for a mobile device. i use the imac 27 at home, life is good atm. So to recap, are you after a tablet on the go with internet and basic functions? if you type a lot etc then laptop

i would stay away from the 11" mba, if you were looking for a word processing machine. the aspect ratio of 16:9 has a wierd viewing angle.

im currently using a dell ultraportable 12.1" when im out and about.

Macbook Air, I find the iPad extremely limited...

It's something i use occasionally and mostly as a remote for my iTunes library.

Agreed. Our little 23 month old uses the iPad rather than us.... I still can't get over the speed and usability of the air.

if work, Macbook. if for fun and games then iPad2... the latter is super fast, loving it!

i work with a 13" 128gb SSD Mac Air the bulk of the day, the iPad is fun but is not a serious threat to a stand alone Laptop, its great when lounging about in the evening for answering mail or using apps.........horses & courses tho'

Not sure I understand... the iPad is priced less than it's competitors, the Apple laptops roughly the same as comparably equipped competitors, and both have actual resale value after one or two years unlike others.

I'm going the Air, in the throws of getting one, for me it provides more utility. Apart from the fact that my kid's have taken ownership of my less than a year old Macbook Pro.
