I'm home
I'm home.
For those who didn't know, I went into the Miriam Hospital in Providence on Friday to have a section of my sigmoid colon removed. I'd posted before that I'd had multiple flareups of diverticulitis in the last year and surgery was the only option. What was supposed to be a 3 hour operation turned into 5-1/2 hours when the surgeon found that he couldn't complete the operation laperoscopically as hoped due to all the scar tissue and had to open me up and take a bit more. Things got complicated once more in recovery room after the surgery was complete when I wouldn't breath. After a bit of extra attention from the staff and a few extra hours in recovery and I was soon breathing on my own. This was hard on my family though because they expected to see me after 3 hours in recovery and instead were told No and had to wait nearly *7. The larger length removed and the longer insision necessitated a longer hospital stay but after 6 long days of the greatest care ever by the the most competent nurses anywhere, I'm extremely excited to announce that I'm home. I'm home. Man it feels good to say it. For those that knew, thanks for the warm wishes. Thinking of people caring from all over helped make it a bit more bearable and for that I thank you. It'll be a long, slow recovery but with my family's help and folks like all of you around I know I'll be ok.
