I think Hamilton do a lot of cool mechanical watches for that money.

Ok, ok, we all know they are not the same as Hamiltons of old and are basically ETA Swatches but still cool!

I got my brother a Hamilton that is pretty nice for around 700.00 bucks. You are right they are not the same company but the fit and finish is decent for the dough

Hands down, the Marathon series. Originally built for Canadian SAR, now also made under contract for the US military and NASA. Limited availability. Think Rolex Sub on steroids. Several options including automatic and quartz, steel bracelet and comfortable rubber strap.......

Here's my Hamilton. I paid less than £250 for it with a discount... Not bad for an automatic Day/Date with a display back!

That's a nice looking watch I'd wear it. No problem.

Maybe something from MKII, or a second hand Omega sports watch.

I have an Invicta 50mm and I get more compliments on it than my Rolex or my Omega.

Close to your price range are the Ball watches, which are really great for the price point. I haven't checked prices recently (I bought a higher-cost Ball last fall), but I think they start at about $1000.

I've got Al's back on this one. Marathon makes a heck of a watch for well under a grand. The SAR is one seriously sweet value.

Stowa makes some nice watches for under $1000. I wish I would have kept this one.

Put it in the bank and save for an Omega or a Rolex!
