New watch from AD

I recently bought another watch from my local Ad. It is a TT DJ (179173). My question is why did my AD have this watch still new with tags. The serial is a Y model. If my research is correct, shouldn't this be a 2008 model! I have bought several rolexs from this Ad and must admit, they are top notch. I always average 20 to 24 percent discount. Will An Ad hold a watch till it sells or do they rotate stock? I don't even think the 179173 is even offered anymore, according to the Rolex website unless they just change the numbers around....

The case was stamped in 2008 prob... which is no big deal, as long as you get the warranty thats up to date.

Very common, but not a problem at all IMO. I bought a brand new T series GMT in late 1999, and that watch was likely three years 'old' at that point. Enjoy your new watch!

the serial # is an estimate when the watch was produced. purchase day varies. in your case, it's several years later. as long as the warranty card is up to date, no worries. and congrats on the new watch.

The 179173 is a current production Lady's Datejust TT with a fluted bezel and a Jubilee Bracelet. It is still being produced with a msrp of $7575 - at least today!

The case is obviously 2-3 years old but it doesn't mean the movement is!!

I stand corrected....after looking at it closer after my wife took it off, the serial number is a [ Z ]....does that make it any newer or anything interesting from what i thought was a [Y] serial?

Yes, Y Serial # was from 02/03 I believe and Z anywhere from 05-07 if I am not mistaken... This however does NOT mean the AD has had the watch sitting in the case this long. Often time slower movers will sit a bit but also this is just an approximate date. Some Z serials could have come out in 05 and others in 08
