Help in identification
Hi, i have just inherited a watch and am unsure of its authenticity, the dial states Rolex at the top and quartz just above 6 oclock, it has 13 jewels on the dial, on the back it has the rolex crown along with Oyster G-18 R in a triagle followed by 16017-8, appreciate your help.

I know this dates back to at least the early 70's when it was purchased by my wifes grandfather from a jewellers, were they being faked that far back?

this watch has also been confirmed by a local jeweller that the watch is made of 18k gold, i cannot understand why somebody would fake a watch in the 70's in gold and not just sell it as a quality timepiece on its own merit.

Welcome to the Forum
As others have mentioned, not a real Rolex. If indeed told it is real gold, you may want to sell it for its content... |

Appreciate all of your help, really did not if it was real or not especially when we found out it was made of gold, at least the gold scrap value is high at the moment so should still be worth a few pounds.

Hi - upside down Pic.
Rolex have never made a watch that looks like that .... Sorry. The jeweller you went to may have / should have known this too. Just because it may be stamped at 18K gold - doesnt mean that it is 18K gold. I suspect it may all be Fake ... |

Did he gold test it or just look at the hallmark (fake) and say it's gold?
Sorry, I know it's disappointing, but it really is a fake. Stick around, and enjoy TRF, you'll learn by osmosis and soon you'll be ready to buy a real Rolex!

And I agree. I highly doubt they would make a real 18kt gold wach and make it all black. Why not just use stainless if you are going to black it out?
