Breitling EMERGENCY MISSION

I just saw Greg sold one of these, what a very, very cool concept in a watch. For those who don't know, it had an emergency beacon function that operates on an emergency aviation frequency.

Just don't pull out the antenna in a non-emergency to show your friends--- its a felony in the US.

Problem is that frequency is no longer actively monitored by rescuers.

They need to really update the watch.

Great concept and was great back in its day.

Now if you have a loved one that knows where you were and notifies search and rescue you had that watch they will start to seek that frequency.

They also make a special holder you can place it in to test the frequency without triggering and alert costing you a lot of money if its picked up.

Yeah, you shouldn't pull out the antenna if you get a flat tire on I-75, that's for sure

Nice watch but I don't really see the draw of it to people who wouldn't need the function. The Aerospace is basically the same watch without the Emergency transmitter.

The attraction is that it 'CAN', not that it 'DOES'. I mean, after all, in our usual time-telling routine, who actually needs the second hand on the non-chrono watches? Who needs a Tourbillon? Who needs a car that can go 170mph when the speed limit is 75? It's all about the capability.

I very much need a car that will go 170. If you don't, Greg, then I'll take yours off your hands.

I sometimes go to some pretty remote places climbing and have considered one of these. I'm a bit concerned about the frequency change but heae mixed reviews...
I guess, if I didn't check in, the Long Haired General could tell mountain rescue to use the old frequency...?
I suspect I'd be as well to get a handheld transponder and put it in my bergen but I just like the idea of it being on my wrist since, if the do-do really hit the fan, I'd be guaranteed access to it.
I take Gregs point about bragging rights but I'd only wear it to the hills if I did get one. I actually hate big watches but at least this thing has good reason to be that size!
Just my opinion but I do think people wearing them in city centres look like proper tools!

Isn't that why they call them a 'tool' watch Mark?

I remember seeing that Ben Fogel chap wearing a yellow dial one to present the BBCs coverage of Crufts dog show...?!?
Sure, he'd just rowed the Atlantic and had every reason to wear it then, but I just shook my head when I saw it in the nice cosy tv studio!
