I need your help!

Hello everyone!

I am a new member. I just discovered this forum. I have been collecting vintage watches for some years. But my knowledge of Rolex is very lacking.

I just won a vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual advertised as ref. 6564 with a 14k bezel. But I noticed in one of the pictures(links posted below) two reference numbers one 6565 the other 6564 stamped below with some space between the two numbers.

Is this watch legitimate? Why are there two ref. numbers.

I really appreciate your assistance.

Shawn

If you look at the upper number you will notice that it is lined out...

Rolex has not always been consistent in what they do inside the caseback...

Rolex were renowned for their efficiencies .....

.... including being economical with their parts supplies.

This is an example of them simply using up stock on hand when different models share the same caseback.

Nice watch Shawnd. - I'm no expert but the baton dial and dagger hands look period-correct to me

Welcome.

Rolex has done the same thing with the 5513/12. They're the same part. As mentioned Rolex wastes nothing and used whatever was on hand.

I don't think Rolex ever expected anyone but a watchmaker to see the inside. Collecting has changed a lot of things.
