As mentioned over and over there are some great sellers right here on TRF, several names come to mind. I have dealt with several of them on numerous occasions and had nothing but great experiences. I too had my doubts at first but figured whats the worst that could happen... I did my homework... If you are not comfortable with that, buy from an AD, hang around TRF for awhile and buy your 2nd Rolex here

I did my duty and tried to buy from a "trusted seller" on here (he's not in this thread). He wouldn't take Pay Pal. I walked away from the deal, and bought from eBay.
Sellers need to know that a transaction is a 2-way street. Sure they want protection, but the buyer does and deserves it too! |

Threads like this make me scared to buy or sell anything ANYWHERE! Seriously, after being scammed a while back, I'm definitely putting in an effort to be more cautious but how does one gain a reputation for being a good seller if wire-transfer is the only safe method for sellers but the most risky for buyers? And if you're willing to do paypal, should references be asked for? Guess sellers need to buy the buyer first.

As we speak, coincidentally or not, I have a watch missing in transit. It has made a trip half way around the world in 3 days only to go missing while "out for delivery". Several hours past the delivery commitment time and no where to be found. No communication from the carrier unless I initiate contact. I have 3 outlets to claim against if it never shows up. I would have -0- if I would have wired the money.
It sucks, but not as much if I was just left hanging in the wind with only a bank wire receipt. |

I have sold many, many watches through the Rolex Forum...
and 20 times as many on another Vintage Rolex Site. Most of my sales are to dealers who pay by bankwire as not to incur any more expenses on top of the watch. Occasionally I do accept paypal, but in general only from an established buyer/forum member. Established meaning he is an active member of the forum. Many, many times I will post a watch for sale and I get numerous PMs from buyers with 0 posts to this forum and as a rule I will only accept bankwire. In all reality, and proven by example, a buyer can pay through paypal and file a chargeback through their creditcard company. Paypal can arbitrate it, but 99% of the time the creditcard company will back the buyer and withdraw the funds from paypal. In turn paypal will debit the sellers account. There is nothing the seller can do about it. With this being said...know your buyer...know your seller. Check the buyers/sellers history on the forum. Are they continuously active? Do they have a solid history of buying or selling? Will they provide a phone number to discuss the transaction if need be. Being an active member of this forum will ease the minds of both partys involved. That's my story and I'm stick'n to it :)

As a buyer I love Paypal and gladly pay the extra 3%. with Paypal I use my Credit Card and I have double protection against scammers. I just bought a DD 118238 all went great.
