Dear friends:

I was going through the new designs/upgrades that our friends at Rolex introduced at Basel, and it looks like most of the models have upgrades....let's see....GMT with solid bracelet and ceramic bezel, YMII with ceramics as well, airking with beefier design, datejusts with beefier cases and new bracelets (solid), daydate with new design, domed crystal and optional oyster bracelet, daytona with 'in house' movement...so there are three models that have not been updated:

-Sub
-EXP I & II
-YM

I would say (guessing), that the Sub will follow the GMT's foootsteps (ceramics and solid bracelet), and YM will go only into bracelet upgrade (no ceramics needed for the bezel) but.....what are your expectations for the Explorers? Only bracelet 'upgrades'? New designs? Or an unexpected move (into the vault, no more production...I do not think they would go this way)....I would certainlly like to hear (ok, read) your comments.

we can only guess......

the explorer line is unique cos it's only available in ss (other than the sd)......

i expect in the future, upgrades would be

supercase
maxi dial and wider hands
new all brushed bracelet
triplock crown

i expect the brushed ss bezel to remain....and also the red 24 hr hand.....:)

I personally think the Explorer IIs will be the next Rolex in the line up to be upgraded, since it will use the same movement as the new GMT IIs (cal. 3186).

I agree with Ohlins as to what the upgrades will be, and that is one watch I am really looking forward to! With the newer movement and the larger hands and hour markers, it will be the best!

Have to agree with Larry. Hard to imagine a ceramic bezel or even a maxi dial on an Exp-II. Might even succeed in making it look ugly!!

Hope they would keep the SS Bezel, but the Maxi Dial is much needed. Much better lum and hand visibility in low light or at a quick glance. Need in Exploring situations such as climbing, caving, rafting, motor sports, etc...

A movement change would make sense, producing one movement instead of two would be cheaper. I could also see the Maxi dial heading its way. Changing the bezel is a no-no, I think it'll stay the same (is that think or hope?)

I agree. If you love the old classic style get one when you can before the changes.

Those watches will be classics in the future appreciated by traditionalists like us! We are lucky that we can know the dierence and appreciate them.

The bezel of the Explorer II is FIXED, so I do not think that Rolex will put any ceramic on that one!

But my guess is that the SUB will be the next model to be "updated" (Not "upgraded" IMHO

).

Probably, this update will presented in the next Basel Fair and in the GOLD version to start with, and with the steel and TT versions to follow.

Well, If I had to guess (and that's all it is).

I think the new case will find it's way into the EXP II. As Chad said --same movement. Maxi-dial will be there along with a stainless bezel with a new font.
Triplock of course. We will see!

If they maintain the integrity of the design the bezel would have to remain SS. A ceramic bezel would be too fragile while underground.
