eBay fraud waiting to happen, can anything be done?
I happened to come across a nice vintage JLC Memovox on the 'bay: http://bit.ly/maf5m9
I noted that the seller had 100% feedback with a score of 82. But he was located in Thailand, not exactly the hotbed of vintage Swiss watch sales. Then I clicked on his feedback for some more detail: http://bit.ly/lzpCfp 78 of his rating were in the last month. All were as a buyer. Then I started to click on the items he purchased. Some were private auctions, but of those I could review, EVERY ONE was for an item whose total cost was less than $0.50, including shipping. Like this: http://bit.ly/jkXgjH This guy has clearly been artificially inflating his feedback in order to trick some naive buyer into getting ripped off. I can't believe that eBay doesn't have the ability to detect this! I sent him a message asking for another photo of the watch and asking some questions about it. No response in two days. What is worse, he has seven Swiss watches "for sale," all ending in less than 24 hours: http://bit.ly/kxSGkd Can anything be done to stop this obvious fraud??? |

I don't know, but it's appalling.
I hope any potential buyer can see the shallowness of his feedback profile and smell a massive, stinking rat. Is it worth reporting to eBay? I'm weighing in anyway... |

I tried to get into it by going via Listing Practices as the complaint, but nothing is relevant from the subsequent drop down boxes.

I don't hold out much hope for reporting to eBay, at least through the typical channels. Once I reported a watch listing using stolen pictures from another "for sale" post on one of the forums and they refused to take it down, because I couldn't "prove" that the eBay seller didn't own the watch in question. I even got the owner of the original pictures (who had subsequently sold the watch) to write them and they still wouldn't take it down because he couldn't "prove" anything (even though he knew the buyer of his watch was not the person selling it on eBay). We need someone with a special channel/relationship to eBay to make it happen. |

checked out his bid history, multiple items bid for 1 cent, some for 11 cents, 22 cents, none over a dollar that I saw. Obvious scammer. I COULD be wrong!

I reported the JLC as a fake and referred to the buyers history and that this was an obvious scam - lets see what happens?

Ebay is not a safe place to conduct business, if you going to use them be very caution and don't item that has a big price tag.

Thanks to gingi310 for reporting these scams and it looks like plan "A" worked, all seven of his listings are removed......
This listing (230630251698) has been removed, or this item is not available. This seller now has NO active listings... http://shop.ebay.com/cpnpen/m.html?_..._from=&_ipg=25 |

Great job guys!
Glad I took the time to bring it to the forum's attention even though it was non-Rolex-related. This forum remains the best (only?) place I know dedicated to taking action against fraudulent sales on eBay.
Kudos! |

Found another one!
I found another clearly fraudulent seller of watches; almost exactly the same as the last one!
Saw this JLC with about 35 hours left: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=180677444645 It fits the exact same pattern: JLC, Seller is from Thailand and has 9 high-end watches up for sale (http://shop.ebay.com/noses11/m.html?_trksid=p4340.l2562), Seller's feedback is all as a buyer of ultra-low-cost items (like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=130515189821) and almost all received within the last month: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAP...edbackAsSeller This seller is particularly lazy: he lists the JLC as a "2 tone Wacth" (it is all stainless steel) and says it is "vintage" (it's a recent model), but don't fret, "shipping to all international." Can the WatchOut elves make this one disappear? |

we will see what we can do......... thanks for the report, but for new reports please start a new thread as old threads that have had conclusions can be overlooked. In your report please include the sellers ebay id ie noses11. It makes follow ups and repeat counterfeit listings much easier to track.
thanks.......... |
