Thanks chaps, a great response and full of sound reasoning and emotion from all sides, which makes my original question seem rather simplistic after reading all that.
I agree the 18th milestone could easily become the 21st, 25th, or something else special instead. I liked the warm feelings for the 14060 which was reassuring and the common sense of investing the money and then buying in the future. Apart from I have already invested some money for his future and thought of the watch idea as a unique present. I'm going to think about this long and hard for a while but that's a good thing as I no longer feel the need to rush out and buy something tomorrow (which will please my wife too) Whatever I do - I certainly hope we're all still wearing our watches in 20 years time!
